It’s likely the people comitting these acts are mentally or emotionally damaged themselves. The reflex for empathy long suppressed. Striking out carelessly at anyone who they view as different, foreign. If only we knew about of a group of people stoking and encouraging harmful rhetoric that leads people to think this way…

Like most systems in society, the incarceration system needs good people, but all it gets are power tripping, emotionally stunted, adult-size children. Because that’s what it wants, hurt people hurt people, and in this case the system is doing exactly what it was designed to do.
