Israeli strikes on Rafah raise fear assault could begin

Israel bombed at least three homes in Rafah overnight, raising new fear among the more than a million people sheltering in the last refuge on the southern edge of the Gaza Strip that a long-threatened ground assault could be coming.

One of the airstrikes killed 11 people from a family, health officials said.

Separately, in the Israeli occupied West Bank, which has seen worsening bloodshed in parallel with the Gaza war, three Palestinians were killed and four others wounded by Israeli fire during a raid in Jenin overnight, the Palestinian health ministry said on Wednesday.

At least 32,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s offensive into Hamas-run Gaza, according to the health ministry there, with thousands of other dead believed unrecovered under rubble. The war began after Hamas fighters raided Israel on Oct. 7, killing 1,200 people and abducting 253 hostages according to Israeli tallies.

This is also why the security council ceasefires have all called for no destruction of Rafah. US vetoed. US draft allowed Israeli attacks in Rafah. Others blocked.

Israel is straight up ignoring the resolution. So not only are they complicit in genocide, but anyone who sends them aid is more so complicit now.

That’s not when the war began.

That sure sounds like the calculated use of violence to create a general climate of fear in a population and thereby to bring about a particular political objective.

It sounds like war, and Israel didn’t start this war.

Pilferjinx ,

It’s not a war. It’s a genocide. This is just an expedited version on the long plan.

No mate, war is when both countries have a military. This is a technologically advanced, nuclear armed nation genociding some of the poorest people in the world who are held captive in an open air prison. It’s a disgrace to the perpetrators and their supporters.

Netanyahu will not rest until every single Palestinian is displaced or dead.

Based on his history so far I’d say the latter.

He probably won’t go after the ones in refugee camps in Egypt. Although Egypt also treats them like shit. Just not as bad as Israel has ever treated them.

You’re right. Egypt would consider that an invasion for sure.

Israel’s military has the capability to raze Gaza to the ground and has had that capability for a long time. If they wanted to do that, it would have been done already.

    With what, a nuke?

Conventional military armaments would be enough, it’s a small area.

141 square miles is “a small area?”

    Fuck Israel.
