EU chief says Israel was responsible for Hamas' surge to power in Gaza: 'Financed by the government'

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said very plainly during a speech at the University of Valladolid in Spain that Israel financed Hamas in an effort to weaken the then-governing Palestinian Authority.

“Yes, Hamas was financed by the government of Israel in an attempt to weaken the Palestinian Authority led by Fatah,” Borrell said without elaborating, Reuters reported.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has previously denied such allegations. He has also decried other remarks from the EU and the United Nations as sympathetic to Hamas.

Meanwhile the US just refuses to endorse a ceasefire, criticizes the Genocide case against Israel in the International Court and sends them more bombs to blow up civilians…

Mind you, here in Europe the Germans and Brits too have turned out to still be Nazi-lovers - same unwavering support for violent racists, only this time around “the Jews” are “one of us” and it’s the “Palestinians” that are the “human animals” that should be put down…

PS: For those who don’t know, the British elites loved the XX-century Nazis up until they invaded Poland and there is even a picture of the old Queen as a girl, with her uncle the then King, doing a Nazi salute.

Stephen Fry has a story about meeting dame diana moseley nee mitford. She said to him (a jewish man) “Of course you never met hitler, did you? One thing people forget is how funny he was!”.

A despicable woman who got to die peacefully in her 90s.

There’s an eye opening documentary on Netflix that show how close Yasser Arafat and Yitshak Rabine came to getting lasting peace, after some painstaking diplomacy under Bill Clinton.

Then the Israeli extreme right , who’s protests against the Accord were endorsed by……Bibi Netanyahu…… assassinated Yitshak, because they were unhappy with the signing of the Oslo Accord - a framework for lasting peace.

I can’t remember the name. Sorry . I’ll try to add it later.

Edit: the human factor

Definitely would watch that if you do recall the name.

Cool theory, and id love for it to be true, but got some evidence to back it up?

Edit: thanks for all the sources. One random dude who refuses to elaborate on something so damning wasnt a good look, but as usual the Lemmings come thru with the real info!

Here’s a comprehensive video with a lot of (mostly ex) big government figures and even ex-presidents admitting it.

i thought you’re joking 😂

Cethin ,

That is elaborating… What a weird way to write a sentence.

It is well documented and understood. It’s easily searchable and viewable to anyone with internet access. If you don’t believe him then first: look it up, and second: you’re really out of touch. It’s really not anything that needs to be explained to most people following the situation.

UsernameHere ,

There’s a lot of misinformation being spread about everything going on in Gaza. It’s wise to not believe anything without proof.

Cethin ,

Sure. There’s a lot of proof though.

Linkerbaan OP ,
@Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

Yes indeed. The IDF is lying about Hamas bases underneath hospitals. We must be very careful to believe any of their lies.

Luckily this certain case of Netanyahu financing Hamas is very well documented and supported with mountains of actual evidence, unlike the IDF propaganda many mainstream papers like to show us

I looked through the articles but I couldn’t find the sources to prove what the articles are claiming. Do you know how I can find them?

AFaithfulNihilist ,
@AFaithfulNihilist@lemmy.world avatar

You obviously didn’t look through the articles at all.

UsernameHere ,

So where are the citations then?

AFaithfulNihilist ,
@AFaithfulNihilist@lemmy.world avatar

The articles are the citations. Articles themselves don’t typically have citations like Wikipedia. That’s not actually how journalism works.

It’s starting to look like you don’t understand how any of this works.

Well then check out this article that says the moon is made of cheese: https://reasons.org/explore/publications/articles/evidence-indicates-the-moon-is-made-of-cheese

Pretzilla ,

Funny, but you basically made the point yourself. Look at the sources.

UsernameHere ,

I did. They are used to prove how misinformation is spread by people who link articles as proof. They make the point that these articles can’t be trusted without proof.

gastationsushi ,

I’m just curious, are you or aren’t you claiming Hyperreality linked to misinformation?

UsernameHere ,

I aren’t saying that. I’m saying I can’t verify what it is saying is true. So it’s not proof of anything.

NoneOfUrBusiness ,
UsernameHere ,

If it’s on YouTube it must be true

NoneOfUrBusiness ,

Uh... The evidence (admission of current and former high-ranking Israeli officials) is in the video, which by the way is made by the Intercept, not a random guy in his basement.

UsernameHere ,

That admission of high ranking officials you’re referring to was just highlighted text from some mystery document in the video. How do I know it is credible?

Articles:

Yuval Diskin, former head of Israel's Shin Bet security service, told the daily newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth in 2013 that "if we look at it over the years, one of the main people contributing to Hamas's strengthening has been Bibi Netanyahu, since his first term as prime minister." ... former prime minister Ehud Barak told Israeli Army Radio that Netanyahu's "strategy is to keep Hamas alive and kicking … even at the price of abandoning the citizens [of the south] … in order to weaken the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah." ... At a 2019 Likud party conference, Politico noted, Netanyahu said, "Anyone who wants to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state needs to support strengthening Hamas." ... Netanyahu defended Israel’s regular allowing of Qatari funds to be transferred into Gaza, saying it is part of a broader strategy to keep Hamas and the Palestinian Authority separate, a source in Monday’s Likud faction meeting said ... etc. etc. etc. etc.

You:

where are the citations then?

Hyperreality ,

The articles explictly mention sources. You either didn't read the articles (properly), are being disingenious, or you're suffering from cognitive dissonance.
