FlyingSquid , in Schools close in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Pittsburgh as new blast of snow hits Northeast
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Closed here today in Indiana too, but kids don’t get snow days anymore. Now they have to do e-Learning days. Let the kids go sledding and build snowmen for fuck’s sake!

lennybird ,
@lennybird@lemmy.world avatar

Growing up homeschooled in the rural mountains of Pennsylvania, I was still granted snowdays for some of the best storms of the season. Fond memories of those days, making quinzees and sledding… How quiet the nights were save for the creaking of snow-laden tree limbs in the woods.

    calcopiritus , in Italian province orders all dogs to be DNA tested in poo crackdown

    As a dog owner, I wish this happened in my city. Every time I walk the dog I have to be extremely careful not to step on other dog’s shit.

    One time my GF was walking the dog wearing sandals and stepped on a dogshit. The owner of the dogshit approached her and told her “How dare you walk on sandals here, dogs shit here”, he later said “I’m a very good dog owner, I always carry a bag with me” (I guess to pick up the shit if police is nearby) “But I don’t like picking up the dog’s shit, it’s nasty”.

    People just suck.

    sixerzero , in Walmart pay raise: Store managers, hourly workers to get wage increase, restructure store manager bonuses
    @sixerzero@lemmy.world avatar

    I wonder if this includes the coaches and leads. Would be weird if they didn’t get a raise.

    EmpathicVagrant ,

    TropicalDingdong , in 100% fruit juice associated with weight gain in children and adults, study finds

    juiced like, 80 lilikoi last week. enough for two tall lints of pure fresh lilikoi juice for me and special lady friend.

    Shit went down better than the best oj you’ve never had. I have no idea what those two glasses of juice would cost retail, but we saved lilikoi for a week to do that.

    Juices require a ton of fruit. lemmings can have some juice. as a treat.

    FlyingSquid , in When families need housing, Georgia will pay for foster care rather than provide assistance
    @FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

    In the 1920s, my grandmother’s parents abandoned her with not especially close relatives who didn’t care much for her in Schenectady, NY so they could go back to New York City. In the 1950s, my mother, my uncle and my grandparents were essentially homeless for a while. They lived on the enclosed porch of a friend who had a house in Queens. If they had lived in Georgia, and it had been today, I couldn’t even imagine how my grandmother, abandoned by her own parents, would have reacted if my mother had been taken away from her.

    They got their own home after a year and a half or so and my mother was in no way scarred by the experience. In fact, she liked it because the family inside the house had a television and she could watch it.
