FlyingSquid , in Dems blast 'evil' Trump team over debate watch party at gun store near GA school shooting
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Now that the debate is over, how many of them had to have the store’s guns taken out their mouths after watching it?

“It’s not even loaded, Gary.”

korny , in Tyreek Hill learned he isn’t allowed to do what white people do

I think Tyreek is a piece of shit, but these officers didn’t handle this very well either.

I wouldn’t be upset if he gets shanked

xc2215x , in Texas man sentenced to 3 years in prison for kicking cat like 'a football field goal' on video

Good. He deserves it.

I don’t understand why people like you are pretending you don’t know who she is when she’s one of the biggest celebrities in the world with a giant fan base that does whatever she asks of them.

I get it, you’re too good to listen to her music or whatever. I’m not even a fan of hers and I can recognize this as significant.

2pt_perversion , (edited ) in Texas man sentenced to 3 years in prison for kicking cat like 'a football field goal' on video

Someone else, whose identity was not known when the case was presented to a grand jury, poured an accelerant on the cat and set it on fire, the indictment against Williams says. The animal running away on fire was also recorded on video.

Two psychos

nkat2112 , in Former Nashville Medical Examiner, Whose Testimony Helped Convict a Russell Maze in 2004 of Killing His Baby, Now Says He Was Wrong. Maze could still spend the rest of his life in prison.
@nkat2112@sh.itjust.works avatar

The CRU subsequently reached out to Levy and asked him to review the record, including Alex’s full medical history and Kaye’s obstetrics record. Levy could have upheld his previous position or written a more measured reappraisal. Instead, after reviewing all the evidence, he unequivocally rejected his original findings and testimony.

I want to take a moment to show appreciation for people who admit they were wrong. Especially in a matter of such great importance.

I hope these charges can be vacated soon.

And kudos to ProPublica for being so amazing. A non-profit news source, I see. I’m very impressed and I should be donating. Their articles are quite eye-opening and their involvement at re-examining this case was key.

fpslem ,

And I have been very critical of Nashville DA Glenn Funk, including for his malfeasance in using person connections to get fake work to boost his own pension, but the formation of the Conviction Review Unit—once it was actually used, after an initially inactive period—deserves recognition and praise.

leauxhigh , in Dallas juvenile detention center isolated kids and falsified documents, state investigation says

where’s the Christian outrage?

2pt_perversion , in Ginni Thomas news boosts calls for Clarence Thomas recusal ahead of Supreme Court term

They got caught taking bribes and then afterward made an official ruling that “gratuities” are okay and totally not bribes. These corrupt assholes have no shame and will never voluntarily recuse themselves.

DougHolland , in Personal assistant convicted of dismembering his boss is sentenced to 40 years to life
@DougHolland@lemmy.world avatar

Prosecutors said Haspil had been hired as an assistant for Saleh, whose ventures included a ride-hailing motorcycle startup in Nigeria, but quickly began to siphon money from Saleh’s businesses.

That’s a painfully clumsy sentence. Has AP no editors?

ravhall ,

What do you think the line should be?

AnUnusualRelic , in A Texas official gets probation for accidentally shooting his grandson at a wedding
@AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world avatar

Isn’t there a saying? A Texas wedding where nobody gets shot is a boring affair?

Maybe I’m confusing it with something else.

werefreeatlast , in Texas man sentenced to 3 years in prison for kicking cat like 'a football field goal' on video

My favorite part of the anchor movie. But that was definitely a fake dog.

TotalFat , in Google faces a new antitrust trial after ruling declaring search engine a monopoly

The US gov’t does this to gain leverage over these companies – not to help Americans. They can then use them to conduct surveillance on us.

orcrist ,

I think you’re mixing up conspiracy theories. Please try again, and keep your facts straight. The NSA is going to be getting data from Google no matter what happens. They don’t need another government organization to make Google spend millions of dollars on lawyers for that to continue.

orcrist , in Google faces a new antitrust trial after ruling declaring search engine a monopoly

I like Google’s weak argument that technology has shifted to mobile so advertising is different than it was before, and therefore they can’t have a monopoly. Because they’re not arguing that they don’t have monopoly, they’re arguing that the monopoly is less impactful. But if that’s true, then forcing them to split companies isn’t such a big deal, because surely they as a company have similarly shifted in focus, so they would only be losing a piece of their total advertising branch, not the whole thing.

Feathercrown , in [USA] Presidential Debate Mega Thread

I loved these moderators. Hard questions all around, fact-checking on outrageous claims, and they were aggressive enough with the mics.
