Empricorn , in RFK Jr. withdraws from Arizona ballot as questions swirl around a possible alliance with Trump

The brain worm told him he can pull votes from Harris if he joins Trump, the person he is allegedly “running against”.

Hegar , in The maker of Mike Lynch's yacht says it took 16 minutes to sink and the crew should have had time to rescue passengers
@Hegar@fedia.io avatar

"It went down, not in one minute as some scientists have said. It went down in 16 minutes," Costantino told the Financial Times. "You can see it from the charts, from the [Automatic Identification System] tracking chart."

Business Insider could not independently verify his statement.

The yacht maker offered no proof, so we'll have to wait and see if it's yet another rich person lying.

Speaking of rich people lying, Mike Lynch and his VP of finance, Stephen Chamberlain, were accused of using fraud to overvalue their company before selling it to HP, who wanted $5b in damages.

They were acquitted last month. Chamberlain was killed by a car while jogging, two days before Lynch's yacht went down.

DragonTypeWyvern ,

Jeez. This is why you hire the good ones, unlike those clowns at Boeing with their second stringers.

HootinNHollerin , (edited )

He’s referring to the AIS tracking system and how long until it stopped broadcasting after the boat whipped around due to the storm. You can look up the AIS and see it yourself too. Both this boat and the one anchored next to it whip around drastically the same time then the Bayesian stoops transmitting, likely because the transmitter is now under water. This video has a timelapse of the AIS youtu.be/yF5UduROOFY

thrawn , in RFK Jr. withdraws from Arizona ballot as questions swirl around a possible alliance with Trump

This is such an odd endorsement to seek.

I don’t see a huge amount of people who would trust the strange protest candidate enough to simply obey and vote for Trump. Especially because among his supporters who are largely 1) protest voters or 2) prone to conspiracy bandwagons, how many will remember who he endorsed in three months?

Poayjay , (edited ) in Grocery stores boost political donations even as Democrats take aim

I’m in Oregon and every other ad on Pluto is about how great Kroger is to their employees. I feel like the average person doesn’t realize how disastrous the merger will be for everyday people. Food is already becoming unaffordable. They aren’t merging to lower prices.

aseriesoftubes ,

Wow, you’re being incredibly insensitive to the executives who stand to make millions off this merger and the resulting price hikes it will bring.

mozz , in NASA will decide Saturday if Boeing's new capsule is safe enough to fly 2 astronauts back from space
@mozz@mbin.grits.dev avatar

I think the astronauts should decide.

What is gained by taking the responsibility away from them, and handing it to some other person? I could maybe see it if I trusted that other person to be more qualified, but if they are NASA administration, then I don’t.

catloaf ,

Good thing the article specifies “engineers” then

mozz ,
@mozz@mbin.grits.dev avatar

Incorrect

Administrator Bill Nelson and other top officials will meet Saturday. An announcement is expected from Houston once the meeting ends.

Engineers are evaluating a new computer model for the Starliner thrusters and how they might perform as the capsule descends out of orbit for a touchdown in the U.S. Western desert. The results, including updated risk analyses, will factor into the final decision, NASA said.

The article makes a specific point about “top officials” being the ones at the meeting, and makes a distinction between those engineers and “NASA” who is the one making the decision.

Evotech ,

There are many astronauts in the ground in nasa too, and people who actually design and build spaceships

Phoenix3875 , in California woman fed up with stolen mail sends Apple AirTag to herself to catch thief

What happened to the beeping anti-stalking feature?

Ghoelian ,

Yeah that’s what I was wondering as well. I still have one lying around in a drawer somewhere (don’t have an iphone, it’s not mine). Every time I open the drawer it beeps at me, and nowadays my android phone even notifies me of one following me as well.

ggppjj ,

Takes three days of separation from the owner to kick in, IIRC.
