Let’s remember that the boarder was open for financial gains. Politicians don’t do anything out of the kindness of their hearts. The richest nation in recorded history can’t take care of its most needy. Someone like Musk or Gates or Bezos could easily create housing for all the destitute in this nation (not fancy, but livable) without seriously impacting their bottom line and we accept that it’s ok for them to hoard that wealth while our government does fuck-all to help these people. Instead, our government persecutes them by making them relocate. They can’t even have community. We’re assholes.
