Intrusive ads and…

MALWARE!

Twiglet ,

Yep, the main reason I started using adblockers in the first place is because I was tired of the weekly disinfection routine of my pc.

Hiding ads wasn’t my main motivation to start with, I just wanted to keep my system safe and shit free.

Evotech ,

To be fair, some add-ons are the worst malware you can have. Google is trying to combat that

DudeImMacGyver ,
@DudeImMacGyver@sh.itjust.works avatar

Bullshit, they are trying to kneecap ad blocking to protect their bottom line. They could have protected people from sketchy add one without fucking up ublock

troed , in Iceland's minister for the Environment mandates gender neutral toilets
@troed@fedia.io avatar

Stop making separate gendered toilets. Toilets just need floor to ceiling stalls with actual doors. No urinals (yuck) and then a row of sinks.

This is already the case in practically any Swedish white collar workplace.

tobogganablaze ,

Unless you’re really into wiping piss of toilet seats you want there to be some urinals.

rowinxavier ,

Or have education about how much piss goes everywhere when you pee. In Germany most men sit to pee most of the time, it is a cultural issue and can be changed. That said, if you do urinals, make them stalls too, I don’t want to chat with my pee neighbour.

tobogganablaze ,

In Germany most men sit to pee most of the time

[x] doubt.

I don’t even think that is true for the majority of men in their own home and it certainly is not for public toilets.

RootBeerGuy ,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar
tobogganablaze ,

Of all 13 countries, Germany was the one where most men sat down “every time” to urinate (40%).

See, not most men.

RootBeerGuy ,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

How did I know you are going to point that out. So smart.

Here is the part of the comment above you, that you disagreed with:

In Germany most men sit to pee most of the time.

Emphasis in bold courtesy of mine to help with reading comprehension to what comes next, namely the quote from the link I gave you:

Of all 13 countries, Germany was the one where most men sat down “every time” to urinate (40%). Add those who do so “most times” (22%), and you get the result shown on the map.

40 + 22 is 62. Which is most men.

tobogganablaze ,

Yeah and the times they won’t sit down is when you’re in a public toilet without an urinal. Which is exactly what we were talking about.

Auli ,

40% is not most men in Germany. They just have the most of the countries looked at. Two very different things.

rowinxavier ,

bigthink.com/…/sitzpinkler-german-men-pee-sitting…

“62% of German men sit down “every time” or “most times” when they go pee. That’s more than men in 12 other countries surveyed worldwide.”

superminerJG ,

Urinals can be spaced more closely than regular toilets. Only problem is that women (or anyone with female-appearing anatomy) don’t have a nice way of using them.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

No urinals (yuck)

As a man with a weak bladder, trust me, urinals are necessary for speed purposes.

whydudothatdrcrane OP ,

All this moral panic about gendered bathrooms had been debunked ages ago. The TERF propaganda machine just kept throwing more and more fearmongering our way. It is good to hear that some countries take steps against this neo-segregation insanity.

PotatoesFall , in Kim Dotcom to be extradited from New Zealand to US

the whole math of “stole $500 million” is stupid. That is hypothetical money. It is just not true that all people would have purchased instead without megaupload.

“Which generated $175 million for the site” that’s more like it. Making money with other people’s content is shitty and Kim knew it was happening.

I don’t think he should be extradited but that is at least a decent reason.

Good_morning ,

Completely agree, if you’re going in search of a movie online, even if you can’t find it, you’re not guaranteed to go out and buy it full price, it’s often a matter of both convenience & price. It’s hard to compete with a free download.

Jarix ,

As The Gabe says, piracy is a service issue

Good_morning ,

Can confirm, since I have almost every streaming service I rarely consider pirating at all, now I don’t pay for any but 1, so if password crackdowns or location based logins become widespread I’ll be motivated to raise the flag again

prole ,

Do you think being shitty and breaking the law are the same thing?

NauticalNoodle , (edited )

I think it only makes sense to criminally charge the CEO’s of AI companies if the same thing is being done to Kim Dotcom

—Regardless, my initial post was meant to be satire

—Personally speaking I don’t think all laws on the books are ethical, nor do I think everything that’s unethical is against the law. With that in mind, I don’t care if Kim Dotcom was an asshole because I can’t earnestly argue on behalf of our Intellectual Property laws in the first place. I think they create a framework that is so far beyond reasonable, that my only response is to condone piracy as I have done since long before they raided his mansion.

Not that you will care: Switzerland passed a similar constitutional amendment in 2021, with no exception for religious purposes. It was proposed by a right wing party with barely hidden anti-muslim sentiment. It’s one of the many recent moves that, in my view, makes my country more vulnerable to authoritarian drifts as it makes it harder to conceal one’s identity in protests. There is a difference it seems to the law discussed in this article in that in switzerland the fine is not automatic. it only occurs when someone refuses to uncover their face when asked to.

The economic logic of always prioritizing paid wage labor over other forms of contributing to a society is to me ... a consequence of a sort of fundamental liberalism that is ultimately gonna unwind and collapse upon itself.”

“It's the abandonment of a sort of Aristotelian virtue politics for a hyper-market-oriented way of thinking about what's good and what's desirable,” he added. “If people are paying for it and it contributes to GDP and it makes the economic consumption numbers rise, then it's good, and if it doesn't, it's bad ... that's sort of the root of our political problem.”
