I tried to switch to Firefox, but I fill out a lot of forms, and it doesn’t have autofill for them. It makes it very slow and frustrating. I’ve searched for solutions to activate it, add ons for it, etc to no avail. It seems that function may only be available in the US? It’s strange to have such a basic feature missing.

Miczech ,

I haven’t noticed this myself. Did you look inside settings?

Facelikeapotato ,
@Facelikeapotato@lemmy.ml avatar

Very thoroughly, there’s settings for autofilling passwords, but not forms.

limerod ,

Firefox cannot autofill forms outside login credentials last i knew. That’s not a feature in it. So details like addresses and credit card info are not auto filled.

Facelikeapotato ,
@Facelikeapotato@lemmy.ml avatar

Well, that sucks. I guess I’m stuck with Chrome for now then. Thanks for the info.

Apollo ,

Firefox absolutely can auto fill!

Facelikeapotato ,
@Facelikeapotato@lemmy.ml avatar

Well, it would appear the Android version can’t, at least not in Australia.

Thank you for all your efforts! Unfortunately, I have already looked at the support posts, they refer to settings that aren’t present in my version of Firefox. The add-ons all tell me they aren’t suitable for Android. When I go to the section thay say they are for Android, nothing comes up when I search autofill.

TheL3mur ,
@TheL3mur@lemmy.world avatar

Ah, you’re on Android! In a few months, Firefox on Android will support all extensions. You should be able to use them then.

Facelikeapotato ,
@Facelikeapotato@lemmy.ml avatar

Nice, thanks for the info!

interdimensionalmeme ,

I didn’t catch you were in android. I think there has been some movement this month to make add-ons now accessible on Firefox Android.

Facelikeapotato ,
@Facelikeapotato@lemmy.ml avatar

I should’ve mentioned it in the original comment, that’s my bad. I was mostly venting lol. Sounds like it’ll be sorted shortly, hopefully before Chrome gets too painful to use.

mayo ,

I basically switch to firefox until something I need doesn’t work, then I go back to chrome until they do something scummy. I’m back on firefox now and the experience is better than previously. I will probably stay and keep Chrome for “just in case” stuff or when I want a browser with no privacy/adblock extensions.

Digital pictures of their work last indefinitely, just saying

Edit: To everyone mentioning that digital photos aren’t guaranteed to last forever, yup: That’s what indefinitely kinda means. There is no guarantee. Could last another day because the medium the only copy was stored on failed, or it could last for thousands of years because it was properly backed up in a lossless format.

adriaan ,

Things stored digitally are sadly anything but everlasting, a lot is lost to time already

FartsWithAnAccent ,
@FartsWithAnAccent@lemmy.world avatar

You have to take measures to preserve and back it up, it’s definitely not guaranteed.

The only Chromium-based browser worth a damn is Vivaldi.

It’s privacy-focused and made by the same people who originally made Opera before it got sold off and turned into malware.

mac ,

Ungoogled chromium (github) also worth taking a look at.

I use FF + very strict arkenfox 99% of the time, then if a site breaks I fall back to ungoogled chromium

    Don’t be like them and generalize everything. Browsers are complex piece of software with many use cases. For mine for example Firefox works great without major issues. It might not be the case for you and that’s fine!

    sizzling ,

    There are plenty of people without issues using FireFox (like me). That being said, I’m sure there are those that have issues, so no downvotes from me. It is however better to not generalize like that.

    CrypticCoffee ,

    It absolutely used to suck performance wise since I used an S4 for about 2 years. Since then, it’s been great. As someone who used to dislike the performance, and now loves it, even over chromium stuff, I can safely suggest your oversimplified opinion is without any real basis. Sucks is such a vague word, and I guess it stops you having to detail and rationalise your personal opinion.

    It’s always been great on the desktop.

    verdigris ,

    It’s literally not. I’ve seen multiple performance-impacting bugs that people mention, which is a bummer for those users… But none of them happen to me (Pixel 5, android 13) or plenty of other users. Insisting that FF is just hopelessly broken on Android is simply untrue.

    AngryCommieKender ,

    It does seem slower on my Samsung Galaxy S10e, but I just downloaded it and as you said, there really isn’t a great alternative, so for now I’ll use it. I’m sure that someone will develop something better at some point.

    Holzkohlen ,

    Works just fine for me. Though it’s been a while since I used anything else, I don’t really have a frame of reference. That being said, I can install ublock origin and dark reader in firefox so I won’t ever use anything else on my phone.

    CanadianCarl ,

    It is extremely slow compared to chrome. But I still prefer to use it, unless I am in a hurry.

    AMDIsOurLord ,

    Somehow it’s shit on 60Hz displays. My 120Hz display phone, it’s quite snappy. But on my older 60Hz display phone, it’s unnaturally slow. If your phone isn’t HRR, then maybe this is it? I don’t quite know wtf is wrong with it

    CanadianCarl ,

    I use a picel a4.

    Daft_ish ,

    Been using duckduckgo for the longest time. No complaints.
