I could never work up the nerve to talk to these girls, and I don’t think I missed out on much.

Knusper ,

Certainly depends on the individual girl, but this style wasn’t called “emo” for nothing. You could have some deep talks with emos.

Obviously, they’re not going to open up to everyone, though, and many of them gladly played a bitch to sieve out all the people not worth opening up to. Seems like you got sieved out…

Norgur , in I don't see anything wrong with how we used to be

Well, what I do find hard to understand about youth's aesthetics for the last decade or so is that it's so samey. There is just no one really sticking out. All the subcultures (be it punks, metalheads, hip hop, emo, what have you) have all but vanished, giving way to... Well... Nothing really. It's not that "the youths are bad and weird" no. It's that the youth is not weirdenough for my liking.

OMG so this! I was rocking out to some old NIN in the car and my 10 year old tells me to "turn it down please." He also prefers button shirts. Did we somehow raise a bunch of straightedge squares? Is it now cool to not be cool?

Reva ,

Don’t do sXe like that, at least we’re still edgy too.

fsxylo , in I don't see anything wrong with how we used to be

We were copying bands to be edgy. Now explain broccoli.

young_broccoli ,

What did I do?!

fsxylo ,

There they are! Get them!

TimeSquirrel ,
@TimeSquirrel@kbin.social avatar

They are trying. Cut 'em some slack, the age of a common generational culture is dead and they're doing their own thing as best they can.

Our parents had woodstock/hippies/disco, we had nu-metal and gangsta rap, and they have...whatever they feel like having at the moment.

Roundcat , in I don't see anything wrong with how we used to be
@Roundcat@kbin.social avatar

This shit is still cool! I'm not even going to act ashamed! Hell fucking yeah I dressed like that, and It was motherfucking "epic!"

Wear whatever you think is cool zoomers, and stop for NO ONE! The moment you start letting others dictate your coolness is when you stop being young.

even if you buy their premium whatever, they’ll still give you ads and sponsored bullshit.

TransplantedSconie ,

Nope. Bought ad free this morning, zero ads, zero trackers, zero crashes, battery drain is non-existent, and app is butter smooth. Sync is da balls.

Forbidden knowledge…??? WTF is that description

Moohamin12 , in I like the web app more.

Sync is free.

There is a paid version sure. But the free version is still excellent.

Paradoxvoid ,
@Paradoxvoid@aussie.zone avatar

Honestly, it’s so strange this never comes up - yes there are ads but a man’s gotta eat. The ads aren’t particularly intrusive so the free version is a fine sacrifice for those of us who are happy enough with the base functionality of sync and can deal with the minor annoyance of an occasional ad.

I’d prefer to purchase the ad-free version, but the pricing is a bit excessive for me right now - I can wait it out until there’s a sale or other discount in the meantime.

If that’s a dealbreaker, all the other Lemmy clients are available to use instead - I’ve used them all and they’re all excellent.

Computerchairgeneral , in the most terrible time of the year

Some might say it's too early to put the Halloween stuff out, but I say we need all the time we can get. If it weren't for Halloween the stores would start playing Mariah Carey as soon as the back-to-school sales ended.

JackbyDev ,

Too early my asshole, let me have this!

boonhet , in Youtube Premium

I’d honestly rather pay the 6 euros for IPTV at that point (it’s only that cheap because our Internet is 3x more expensive than neighboring countries so they let you have cheap IPTV as an extra).

kamenoko , in FOSS Devs Rule

Most people who make FOSS full time that people interact with (Linux, Python, Git, Node.js etc) work at large tech companies where their work is being subsidized.

Solo devs don’t have that luxury, their income is directly tied to their product. They don’t have the same privileges.

It baffles me how much people get shit twisted again and again.

So unrealistic… No way the guy on the bottom got the time off to go to surgery.

Imagine how mad my former boss was when I was in the hospital for 4 days because the heart issues I didn’t know about were causing me to nearly pass out at work. Then I got a note that let me off for 3 weeks to let the new meds take effect before I went back.

Don’t get me started on how half ass the diagnosis ended up being either. Got a heart transplant 5 years later after seeing a different doctor.

Llewellyn ,
@Llewellyn@lemmy.ml avatar

Had you gotten a new heart rhythm, by the way? Was it hard to accommodate to your new heart?

glob , in I like the web app more.

Perhaps lemmy admins should start charging apps like this for API access…

EmilieEvans ,

The intent is to provide developers with a sense of pride and accomplishment for being able to pay the API bill.
