I haven’t tried Sync but I’ve tried Connect and Jerboa and I’m now on Liftoff. All have felt pretty smooth to me, Liftoff especially is about as smooth as I could imagine anything being. I’ve got no problem with people using Sync bit I don’t get how they’re having such a bad experience on other apps.
For me it’s actually a bit about brand loyalty. Been using synch for 10+ years and got so used to it. I don’t have problems with other Lemmy apps at all.
I used the first two, but just enjoy the experience of sync better. If sync didn’t exist, I’d be just fine and happy still. But I currently browse Lemmy 30 minutes to an hour each day, so $20 for no ads is something I’ll probably eventually pay for the hundreds of hours I’ll use the app.
Yeah I certainly don’t object to the cost, I’m happy to pay for good software. I guess I should try it to see what the benefit is, I can’t tell from screenshots
So while I understand the love for FOSS and an Ad Free Experience, somebody still has to pay for the server time. Now I know this doesnt exactly work in THIS scenario with Sync, but couldnt ads and paid subs in Apps be a good way for Lemmy/KBin instances for be financed without having to rely on donations?
For Example, imagine if Lemmy.ml had their own app with their own experience and if you wanted to support it without actually handing over money, now you could use ads in the mobile experience and feel a little better about your lurking.
Why are people acting like any animal based character is a furry? Did everyone forget about Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Cats Don’t Dance, Aristocats, Mickey Mouse, American Tale, The Secret of NIMH, Adventures from the Book of Virtues, All Dogs Go To Heaven, Oliver and Company, Lion King, Bambi, Chester Cheetah, The Great Mouse Detective, the Trix Rabbit, basically anything made for kids, old fables and folktales, etc feel free to add to the list
None of this is new and it reminds me when people were losing their minds over actors playing different characters like it was a new thing
Furries are a community off-shoot of the broader sci-fi fandom that started in the 1970’s, characterized by a fondness for anthropomorphic reprisentation in media. It expanded from it’s sci fi roots into fantasy, alt-historical fiction, slice of life, and yes, porn, because nerds are horny.
Furries is also the term for the characters that are created by the members of the community, and also has been used to describe other characters in other media, but it’s worth noting that not all of these come from furries (the people), though by now nearly all do. The lead character artists for Zootopia and Sing are out furries, for example. And Vivziepop and the Lackadaisy team certainly are furries.
Apparently sync was a popular reddit app (I think, I never heard of it before), which has now launched for lemmy. The result being that 50% of all posts on lemmy is now about sync for some reason.
Guerrilla marketing or just very very dedicated fans?
