EinfachUnersetzlich , in Launching Heroic Games Launcher brings down my network

How do your routing tables look before and after it breaks?

million OP ,
@million@lemmy.world avatar

Output of netstat -rn looks the same when the network is down, same for other tools like route and ip route.

What do ping and traceroute look like before and during? Any unusual timeouts or DNS failures?

Looks like it may be my DNS server getting flooded, see the thread at a.lemmy.world/lemmy.world/comment/8057349.

INeedMana , in Help using Mangohud / Gamemode with Flatpak version of Lutris and Steam
@INeedMana@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t use flatpak but I didn’t have to configure Lutris or Steam in any way for that.

If you look around goverlay you’ll find that there are two ENVs that you can set up in X/wayland service to have MangoHud automatically in every context it can render in.

So first try running with MANGOHUD=1 env exported. If that doesn’t help, try https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/MangoHud.
If I understand correctly, flatpack run in some kind of container, so it’s possible that you might need to set the env or the command, so it happens inside the container

anarchyrabbit , in Orange Pi Neo is new handheld powered by AMD and comes preinstalled with Manjaro

I understand the issues with Manjaro. But I am super excited with handhelds making a major come back. I think the next couple of years we are going to see major breakthroughs. Battery life is currently a big issue but this should be solved with more RND.

I currently play on Switch but I am getting very tempted to cross over to another device. But I will wait to see what Nintendo does next before I decide. A buddy of mine has the Asus ROG Ally which is also pretty impressive on its own.

Nice to see ULWGL pick up steam so quickly, figuring out the right version of Proton to run outside Steam has always been kinda weird and fiddly. Name really sucks ass though.

cybersandwich , in Beelink or Steam Deck for work/gaming on RV?

I had to look up beelink because I had never heard of them. They look cool.

It sounds like the decision is:

Do I get a gaming device that can do light computing?

Or

Do I get a light computing device that can do gaming?

As a steam deck owner, it would probably get by doing the things you mentioned and it would probably be a more stable/easy gaming experience. But I personally wouldnt want to use it as a computer. As soon as you want to do anything non-super-basic it’s gonna be annoying since it’s an immutable distro and not set up the way most Linux distros are. A dock would solve the port issues. But You also said you are going to switch to Ubuntu and at that point…

The beelink would give you a little more flexibility and if they games you play already run on Linux, then it’s gonna be pretty easy to get it working (assuming beelinks hardware is all 100% Linux capable.) I’d go with that. The only benefit of a steamedeck is steamOS and the backing of valve to make sure it’s going to work and the portability. You plan on getting rid of the first benefit and don’t seem to care about the second.

If I were you, I’d go beelink.

Chatotorix OP ,
@Chatotorix@lemmy.world avatar

Yep, I was leaning into the Steam Deck this morning when some folks said I could do it without a dock, and having it in my hands for gaming would be nice, but I’m now going to the Beelink camp simply because I don’t want hassle when I use it as a regular PC. and for the same price I get more capabilities with the Beelink.

Thanks for your insight.

Install the “patch” package with pacman -S patch and try again.

Tried it. Everything was good until it returned a couple of errors.

First:

Looks like you need to manually install pkgbuild (mkpkg? Don’t remember off hand) & zmusic.

In 2291, in an attempt to control violence among deep-space miners, the New Earth Government legalized no-holds-barred fighting. Liandri Mining Corporation, working with the NEG, established a series of leagues and bloody public exhibitions. The fight's popularity grew with their brutality.

Soon, Liandri discovered that the public matches were their most profitable enterprise. The professional league was formed: a cabal of the most violent and skilled warriors in known space, selected to fight in a Grand Tournament.

Now it is 2341. Fifty years have passed since the founding of Deathmatch. Profits from the tournament number in the hundreds of billions. You have been selected to fight in the professional league by the Liandri Rules Board. Your strength and brutality are legendary.

The time has come to prove you are the best, to crush your enemies, to win the Tournament.

shadoh , in Hacking into Kernel Anti-Cheats: How cheaters bypass Faceit, ESEA and Vanguard anti-cheats

I prefer anti cheat by design, its probably easier said than done though and impossible for precision shooters like CS. But things like making team work more important than wall hacks and making your approach and strategy more important than how good you are at aiming

merthyr1831 ,

Exactly what I thought. The competitive, individualistic nature of modern competitive shooters makes cheating far too profitable. Not just in a micro sense (winning a game) but also in a macro sense as these games offer prizes, lootboxes, social fame from winning consistently.

wingsfortheirsmiles , in Cannot get a single game working on Linux

I started using Pop OS at the start of the year and have managed to play the vast majority of games including Baldur’s Gate 3. My hardware was similar to yours (though I’ve recently upgraded): 3700X, 1080Ti. Downloaded the version of Pop with the Nvidia drivers and ensured Steam Play was enabled for all games (to automatically utilise Proton).

I’d suggest trying the other Nvidia driver versions, as one of the other ones might work better with your 1070. Seem to recall I accidentally switched to one of the other versions Pop offers and had issues so maybe playing around with them will get some games working

LunchEnjoyer , in Cannot get a single game working on Linux
@LunchEnjoyer@lemmy.world avatar

That’s odd, I installed Nobara as my OS and almost any game is just install and click play and it plays flawlessly. Using both steam to install and Heroic Launcher (which you could try) that has the capabilities to get the games you have on GOG, Epic and Amazon Prime*. Don’t forget that in steam you need to enable Linux/Proton in settings.

Otherwise ProtonDB is a great resource to see what games run on Linux, how well they run and how each person ran the game.

www.protondb.com

Edit: I do believe getting a dedicated gaming distro does help as it has a lot of necessary tweaks pre-configured. For that I’d recommend, Nobara, Garuda or PopOS!

MrKurteous OP ,

ProtonDB is great, I did look at it which is why I expected to be able to run those games! Even people on protonDB that had to tinker to get it working seemed to at least be able to start the games, so I couldn’t find anyone with problems matching my case. Thanks for the tip though! If I don’t manage to figure it out with all help in this thread I might try one of the gaming distros :)

priapus , in Can enabling Linux support on anti-cheats such as EAC or Battleye create more cheaters in competitive games?

It theoretically could, as the Linux version of these anticheats run in userspace. We really can’t say for sure, only someone with knowledge of the internals of EAC/BattleEye could tell us if the Linux anticheats are less capable.

The Finals is so comically easy to cheat in that there would be no point for someone to switch to Linux just to cheat. Especially true when you take into consideration the facts that there aren’t many (if any) cheats for this game on Linux, and most cheat developers only have experience developing for Windows. These devs have years of knowledge on hiding cheats in Windows, and none for Linux.

toddestan , in "I would like to switch to Linux, but it's just not good for gaming"

Next year should be 100% Linux for me. Steam is dropping support for Windows 7 at the end of this year, and I don’t have any other newer Windows PC to run Steam on.

Anticorp ,

Nor do you want them. Windows 10 was pretty amazing when it was released, but now it’s essentially just adware and spyware. They’ve added no new features for the benefit of the consumer, and have added thousands of changes for their snooping and ad-serving.
