nivenkos , in SteamOS 3.0 on a jailbroken PS4

I wish Valve would release a mini-PC / home console with SteamOS.

Something with better performance for playing on a TV.

That could be sweet. Of course, they’ve already tried that, but SteamOS wasn’t really ready then.

And I suppose anyone can get a random mini PC and install Steam on it…

nivenkos ,

There also wasn’t just one model then, it was a mess of different hardware vendors.

Steam OS 3 isn’t fully released yet no? People just use HoloISO IIRC

@nivenkos Yeah that is correct I believe, still no actual release of it besides system images for Steam Deck.

Ryzen 5950X, AMD Vega 64, 32 GB DDR4. Running KDE Wayland nicely for the past few weeks!

I’m gaming on a NUC 11 Extreme kit with a Sapphire Pulse Radeon 6700 XT running ChimeraOS.

Currently it is doing really well, though some games appear to not be using anti-aliasing and I’m not sure why. But aside from that I am super impressed with how well Proton and Lutris have come along!

TONKAHANAH , in What's the outlook for switch emulators?
@TONKAHANAH@lemmy.world avatar

I use Yuzu.

its pretty good, depends on the game of course.

I recently loaded Fire Emblem Engage, super mario oddosy, donkey kong tropical freeze, and both zelda BOTW and TOTK. I was running them on my steam deck so performance was so-so, some games better than others, all of them definitely playable though (except super mario sunshine, but that was one I tried probably almost a year ago, yuzu is better now)

emulation still proves to be the best way to play.

tallest_skil , in What's the outlook for switch emulators?

Quite mature. Ryujinx had day-one support for Tears of the Kingdom. Things just keep getting faster.

silver_Motoko , in Gamepass with Proton?

You could go down the GPU Passthrough option to a VM. If you have integrated and and another GPU you could use LookingGlass and never even have to leave the Linux instance. Single passthrough is what i use to run Gamepass as you do get some good games Day one.

It’s crazy how good this is, from a software engineering perspective I have no idea how they pulled this off. Morrowind is such a complex game, not sure how they reverse engineered it.

Time. This is a very old project. Things have moved slowly, but with time, things starts to actually work well.

This is a perfect example of what FOSS can do compared to money-oriented development.

Planning on migrating over to water-cooling once again but need to figure out runs / radiator placements in my Jonsplus i100 again as this CPU is another beast.

Mostly playing Risk of Rain / Rimworld so not really pushing the system that hard.

See image when I was running my system as 9900k / 3070 under water.

Czele , in Dual Boot?
@Czele@lemmy.world avatar

If You do not feel comfortable to leave Windows for gaming then of course keep it and dual boot PC with Your distro. Also, You can go to protondb to check how Your games run on linux

monolalia , in Dual Boot?
@monolalia@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. I think Elder Scrolls Online and Guild Wars 2 were my last “anchors” to Windows (7, at the time). I barely ever booted into it… I wanted to be NOT IN WINDOWS more than I wanted to play big fat luxury games.

But I did keep it around until there just wasn’t anything left that I wanted to run but couldn’t. The first Humble Indie Bundles with games like FEZ and Limbo had been out by that point as well as a few bigger titles like The Witcher 2. Wine was much more painful than it is now.

I’ve generally made sure not to buy too “crazy” hardware (like Bluetooth controllers… yes, I’m old and a neophobe and I don’t know what else).

beigegull , in Dual Boot?

I stopped dual booting long ago. If a game doesn’t work on Linux, I find it much easier and more fun to simply do something else. At this point, the threat of losing my browser tabs would be enough inconvenience to dissuade me, and I generally have quite a bit more active state than that on my computer that would be lost with a reboot.

Before I gave up on Windows gaming I did use a dedicated machine with a KVM switch for a while. But even that simply stopped seeing enough use to justify it.
