Bishma , in Steam On Linux Use Steady For June, ~40% Of Linux Gamers Are Using The Steam Deck

A chunk of the remaining 60% is me obsessively playing Oxygen Not Included.

SmallAlmond , in Currently free at GOG: Beholder 2 (2018, native Linux)

Thank you! Is there any rss feed or something to get notified of free games like this? I have missed some free games previously.

cdombroski ,

You can use isthereanydeal.com Make an account, go to settings, open up specials notifications and enable giveaways

SmallAlmond ,

Thank you so much!

SmallAlmond ,

For anyone looking for an rss feed, I found this on the steam community forum after finding out about isthereanydeal.com:

RSS may apply filters and options, so getting the RSS for this is the best we can do right now: isthereanydeal.com/#/filter:&price/0/0;/options:s…

It all depends on what can our tracker parse - and that depends on how will Steam show these free games on the store.

Here’s a RSS for EU2 region: isthereanydeal.com/rss/deals/eu2/?filter=price%2F…

It seems to work well!

WilfordGrimley , in Currently free at GOG: Beholder 2 (2018, native Linux)

Anyone here played it?

What’s it like?

MrBungle , in What headphones are you all using while gaming on Linux?

Audio Technica m50x with Bluetooth. I bought them for tracking when recording guitar or just jamming music. They have a flat response so it doesn’t add lows or highs or scoop mids. The Bluetooth option works great with pop os and is easy to switch between headphones mode (stereo audio) or headset (mono sound +mic) mode. Never worked on win10 for some reason.

Arondeus ,

Same here. Great headphones. Stock pads will start to fall apart after about a year and a half depending on how sweaty you are but you can get sheepskin replacements that will last much longer after that. Also adding a ModMic works nicely with these as well.

jaykstah , in What headphones are you all using while gaming on Linux?

Sennheiser HD 599 Have had em for a couple years, they were my first proper open back headphones and I’ve fallen in love with them

jaykstah , in recommended gaming controller

I alternate between a PS4 controller and Switch Pro controller. Overall I think the PS4 controller is more comfortable and the touchpad on it is really convenient for using as a mouse.

Epic, you’re a bro 🤝

2dollarsim , in recommended gaming controller

PS4 controller forever. It ‘just works’ and I’m used to it after the decades. Can’t stand the PS5 controller. It feels too big like the first xbox controller.

DangerousDan , in recommended gaming controller

I use a PS5 controller and it worked great right out of the box. It also has the added bonus that you can use the touchpad on it as a trackpad to control your mouse cursor.

I always thought Nvidia was the default choice, but maybe not for Linux?

2dollarsim ,

You may as well. Proton on Steam is really effective and with GE I haven’t had a game be unplayable for a while. I don’t really care for modern loot box gambling simulator paid public alpha type games though, so YMMV.

CaptManiac ,
@CaptManiac@lemmy.world avatar

So, because Foza Horizon 5 was one of the first games to come out for the Steam Deck I bought it for my PC thinking it would run well. Turns out it won’t run with the current Linux Nvidia drivers and I had to get a refund.

2dollarsim ,

Laaaaaame. At least you managed to get a refund!

I take it you’re aware of protondb and tried the suggestions there? There’s a few people reporting recently that it works fine for them. Maybe recent updates have fixed issues

Thanks! May not get around to actually trying this game anytime soon but it does look interesting

mattes , in Part 4 of the Wine work for Wayland is now merged

Has there been any news what the long term plans of Gamescope (Steam Deck Compositor)? They are building pretty heavily on top of xwayland, so wondering if they’ll make the switch to native Wayland game sessions at some point…

GiuEliNo ,
@GiuEliNo@feddit.it avatar

Gamescope should be wayland based, it uses xwayland for wine/proton games

mattes ,

I am aware it’s Wayland based. But it’s using xwayland for literally everything by design at the moment. There is not even a way to run Wayland native applications currently.

Mawkey , (edited ) in Steam On Linux Use Steady For June, ~40% Of Linux Gamers Are Using The Steam Deck

I'll be joining the Linux team soon! My new parts arrive in a couple of days and I will only use Linux from here on out, except at work unfortunately.

SUNGOLDSV , in recommended gaming controller

I’ve been using 8bitdo SN 30 Pro+, it’s pretty good with standard games and also it’s gyro helps with Switch Emulation

In my experience the Flatpack version causes more issues than it fixes. Try installing it through Nobara’s package manager instead (I think Nobara uses dnf?)

I don’t use Nobara though so someone can correct me if I’m wrong.

Stiltonfondu ,

I second this. On fedora I had a few too many issues with the flatpak and all were solved by switching to the rpm/native version

c0mbatbag3l OP ,
@c0mbatbag3l@lemmy.world avatar

I tried installing it through the package manager originally and it wasnt able to get past installing directx.

Funnily enough regardless of what directories it sees, a reinstall of steam allowed protonup-qt to see that ME:LE was using GE-Proton 8-5 and is currently working!

Amazing… I’ve never had smoothness like this on this machine. I am getting the same performance out of 1440p that I used to get on 1080p, and at 1080p it feels like I’m playing it on my desktop. I never thought it would be usable again, this is crazy. The old girl’s 1050 is still chugging along and getting a clean 60fps.

If I can get my main games all functional on here I might actually consider changing my desktop over as well.
