ono , (edited ) in Does anyone know how to install the physical CD version of Age of Empires III with Wine?

Apparently the problem you describe is solved by installing Microsoft Core Fonts, which can be done by running winetricks corefonts.

Or if you’re comfortable running third party code, a crack might be a more convenient solution:

DreitonLullaby OP ,

Thanks so much! Yes, running winetricks corefonts worked for me; sorry for the late reply. I can now put all 5 digits in each text box; let’s hope the game runs fine.

DreitonLullaby OP ,

Alright, so I continued the installation and inserted Disc 2 when I needed to, to continue to the next part of the installation. Now I get a ‘feature transfer error’. The error says “Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation. Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information”.

The Definitive Edition is now free to play, and buying the full game is quite cheap. Unless you have a particular desire to play the original game, that might be a better option.

DreitonLullaby OP ,

Oh, cool, I didn’t know the Definitive Edition was free now; nice. Still, I’d like to get the original version working if I can.

What that’s very unexpected

DarkThoughts ,

Not really. Standard for German game studios.

All the games are amazing. Such a shame they’re closing down

Project Gorgon!

sacredbirdman ,

It looks a bit rough but it's very good. Had to quit it though because it took over my life.

How about Runescape

nightmareofahorse ,

The OSRS client RuneLite is Linux native, open source, and Jagex (the developer) approved

FF14 works great with Proton. I would still advise to use XIVLauncher, as it is better in every way to the official launcher.

Not native, but Guild Wars 2 runs great on Linux and is a whole lotta fun

Also, in my experience, proton runs most things just as well if not better than native Linux games.

ProtonBadger ,

Yes, I have logged more than 14000 hours in GuildWars2, mostly in WvW maps and since it started playing well on Proton I never touched Windows anymore.

(I have no life).

    WoW still runs great under Wine.

    bosnia ,

    OSRS is native when using Runelite. Unfortunately, Jagex is soon making its launcher the only way to sign in and they refuse to make a version for Linux. Heard it works fine through wine though.

    @synapse1278@lemmy.world avatar

    FSR2 works well on Linux, I think FSR3 will be supported fairly soon after Windows, thanks to the mesa driver.

    Molecular0079 ,

    Does it even require driver support? I was under the impression that FSR 2 only required the game to support it and provide inputs.

    H2207 OP ,
    @H2207@lemmy.world avatar

    Inputs to the driver probably.

    I've played several on Ubuntu and do agree that Albion and Guild Wars 2 both play great and are a lot of fun

    Not native but Palia is one that recently released and is getting a ton of love. It runs on Linux using lutris-GE-Proton8-13
