In the company I work, we have to use jumpbox + “password” from proprietary code generator.
Imagine going through this, then you suddenly need 2nd terminal. Inconvenience doing it again in another terminal?
Well, there is a solution:
tmux
CTRL+B then ". And now you have 2 terminals.
Also tmux is great for “quick solution” kind of things - to leave something running in the background. Talking about background - you can have many terminals open, from only 1 SSH session. :)
It sounds like it's part of loser culture, people that are so dysfunctional they show themself to be losers and don't have the stength of character properly conduct themself so they act both presumptuous and pretentiously trying to act cool but proving what a disappointment they are.
I would suggest setting up a VM trying a few distros that are known for having a lot of documentation and active community members to help. But more important than the distro is to try out different Desktop Environments. This way you can customize your user experience exactly how you want it. Also when you get frustrated (and you will) remember you are trading Windows’ convenience for Linux’s freedom, privacy, and customization.
I tried it recently for a server, trying to get Uyuni up as a system to manage patching etc for other systems.
Install was pretty straightforward and in itself it seems stable. The installer was perhaps a bit more friendly than i.e. Debian for stuff like drive positioning with encrypted volumes etc.
Unfortunately it didn’t really offer anything new that other distros didn’t, and Uyuni itself turned out to be less than fun to configure especially for custom repos for Bookworm systems etc
