lemann , in Pantheon

I don’t think Pantheon even supports Wayland, although I could be wrong.

If you’re fine with giving up customisability and trying a new distro, you could give Elementary OS a spin. It uses the pantheon DE, and the entire OS is designed around offering a mac-like experience.

Otherwise Gnome and some customisations will be your best bet IMO, if anything it might be the ideal route to stick with here

Synther OP ,

I managed to get latte Dock customized to my liking. It works fine and I can get my work done with ease. I do have elementary, an old version mind you, on my Ventoy usb drive if I ever need it.

Krtek , in How to reallocate disk space?

Do you use Btrfs? With that you could extend the Fedora partition even though the free space is not where it should be

starman , in Is there a repository of shortcuts that no major website will use / no major distro uses?
@starman@programming.dev avatar

I don’t know much about xfce, but there should be config file somewhere with all shortcuts, at least that’s how it works in hyprland. And btw, I use super (windows) key for shortcuts related to my wayland compositor (like switch workspace, swap windows, close window, and so on). I’ve never run into any conflicts with this.

Subject6051 , in Microsoft Edge, anyone?

I hate Microsoft but I have to agree it has some really nice products. Personally for me, I just don’t like edge because it’s somewhat bloat. I mean, look, if you have a high powered machine, you will probably love it. But yeah, I like firefox best, I can’t imagine leaving it. Just too addicted to the features, can’t live without them.

PuppyOSAndCoffee , in Another pick me a distro

NixOS or gentoo

Garuda was my first distro too, after it I switched to Endeavouros, I think that endeavouros or arch fill those requirements.

Phen , in Microsoft Edge, anyone?

I use edge on linux every now and then. I keep two browsers to separate work and personal stuff and I use edge as my secondary browser (for personal stuff on the work OS, for work stuff on the personal OS). My main browser is Vivaldi.

My reasoning is that it has very good tab management features and I’d still rather use a Microsoft browser than an Opera browser. With just those two requirements there’s not much else to use out there.

_s10e , in How do you install safe exam browser on linux? Wine? VM?

Can someone explain what’s the point?

There’s some exam, online, runs in a browser. Ok.

Now we require a special browsers. Why?

Which only runs on Windows, but not in a VM, unless you make a small change. Why?

To stop cheating, I assume, but what kind of cheating needs a VM? Maybe I’m old, but we had handwritten cheat sheets on paper.

Are students using cheat software now that solves math problems for an online exam? And if they do, shouldn’t this score bonus points? Sounds like challenging problem to code an AI that she’s your exam.

3laws , in 10 Best Modern RSS Feed Readers for Ubuntu Linux

Just give me functionality and minimalistic GTK4/Qt6 designs and I’m done.

Fluent is alright, but not madly in love with it.

Jumuta ,

fluent is nice but it has a windows style titlebar which is very cringe :/

3laws ,

Yeah, it bothers me too.

woobie , in Why do you use firefox?

Trust. I think it has been earned - so far. NCSA Mosaic was my second browser, and while I’ve experimented with all the major browsers and many not-so-major contenders over the interim couple of decades, Firefox has been a constant for me ever since it was first spawned off of Mozilla. I still believe the Firefox team when they say things, and so far that has worked out just fine.

Holzkohlen , in What to distro to hop to next?

Can’t help you. I use Garuda myself and it’s my favorite distro right now.

Jocker , in Why do you use firefox?

Ctrl+Tab cycles to previous active tab and is actually useful.

The jq selector in the bottom left is killer

Presi300 , in (Neo)Vim alternatives: Kakoune is great! I am surprised that Helix is more popular
@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

I like micro, it’s a text editor, nothing less, nothing much and while I can’t see myself doing any actual programming on it, it’s nice for editing configs and simple scripts

andruid , in What can you do on Linux that you can't do on Windows?

I like Linux for a lot of reasons, but the reason I was dualbooting the most was more packages for AI and the like just worked on it and I was programming.

The reason I deleted my windows partition though was I had a faulty drive that on windows ment I would crash all the time, but my Linux boot just worked for like another year on the failing disk with no issue. When I got a new drive I just installed Linux and didn’t bother getting Windows again.

I have to Linux for work sometimes and the biggest pet peeve for me is that the app search bar is always slow or broken. Like it is so good on KDE, I default to superkey, search app, enter compared to opening any lists of menus.
