I have been working on my scripts for user/group permissions today. This idea has been on my back burner for awhile. I’m sure others have done this before. I just haven’t encountered them yet....
When I try to enable my (correctly configured) VPN it just does nothing, not even an error. Opvpn via the Terminal doesnt work seither even though it worked yesterday
I mean, is it really worth it to compile every single program that I install? Wouldn’t that be a waste of time? I am inclined to try it out but on the other hand idk
I’m old school Xorg, but want to give Wayland a go. The application that has me stymied is VMware Horizon client . It explicitly doesn’t support Wayland, but shouldn’t it work under Xwayland? How do I explicitly make it run with that, and not fail telling me Wayland isn’t supported?
I’m trying to run a java app that creates settings/configuration files, but I’m not sure where and how exactly it’s creating those said files. For that I was thinking perhaps I could log any filesystem changes in a dragnet way (as in, log the entire filesystem). Would anyone know how to do that without much hassle? Tried...
Thunderbird 115 introduced a new look. I hate it. Not only does it no longer fit in with KDE Plasma, it lost functionality due to it’s new integrated search bar in the title bar....
I’ve had an Ubuntu 22.04 setup going for around a year, and over that year I’ve had to increase the size of the partition holding my /var folder multiple times. I’m now up to 20GB and again running into problems, mainly installing new apps, because that partition is again nearly full. I’ve used commands sudo apt clean...
I’ve never had an issue once its set up. Just a 16GB LUKS partition alongside my normal LUKS partition, a small edit to /etc/crontab so I only have to enter the password once, set the RESUME variable, add to fstab, and rebuild init. This method even works with suspend-then-hibernate on every laptop I’ve used it with....
I had multiple disks in my PC, one with Windows and one with Linux. The drive with Linux had the boot record I guess; I removed and replaced that one with a new disk and again installed Linux on it (so the Windows disk has been the same the while time), but I can no longer log into Windows while this new disk is installed and...
The most annoying thing about using Linux on my laptop is that the HDMI doesn’t work out of the box because by default, “hybrid graphics” means your nVidia GPU won’t be turned on until it’s told to run a single program using PRIME offloading....
Hi. I run Moneydance in Ubuntu 22.04.2 and it periodically stops accepting keyboard input - not just in tet fields, but key shortcuts, keyboard navigation, everything related to keyboard. I have to quit and relaunch it for it to accept keyboard input again....
My partner and I are thinking about getting a Brother laser printer for home use in the near future. How difficult is it to get a newer model working in a Linux ecosystem? Are there any specific drivers we should look into installing, if a specific driver isn't available for the model we end up getting? Any advice for connecting...
I’m looking to create a macro keyboard (full keyboard) which is separate from my main keyboard, under Debian with KDE Plasma running under Wayland. I have seen similar tools for X11 but they do not work under Wayland for obvious reasons. I have been able to create basic macros using Python, but is there a much better way for...
The majority of Linux distributions out there seem to be over-engineering their method of distribution. They are not giving us a new distribution of Linux. They are giving us an existing distribution of Linux, but with a different distribution of non-system software (like a different desktop environment or configuration of it)...
