I really confused the person monitoring the self checkout on one occasion several years ago.
I paid with cash, and was supposed to get something like $2.17 back in change. The machine gave me the seventeen cents just fine, but instead of two dollar bills, I got a one and a ten.
It took a couple tries to get the worker to understand that the machine gave me too much back.
People say it usually takes a couple days but mine took like 10 days (probably because many people started asking for data request after the API announce) so don’t worry if it takes long. Good luck.
I was expecting a bit of a wait even before you shared your experience, but they’ve already fulfilled my request-- it finished about 4 hours ago. So, they turned it around in less than 24hr! Maybe they’ve streamlined the process.
I probably ran into a busy time since I assume a lot people were requesting their data because of the news about API. I even sent them an email after waiting a week. Nice to hear you got yours in a normal time.
As an outsider, please take these helpful suggestions:
The logging-in process is messed up. For the longest time I couldn’t log into any of the mobile apps (even though on the desktop it worked fine). The error messages were mostly not helpful.
Even now, I still get error messages that ask me to pick a language for some reason. This is after I’ve already typed up a comment and I am trying to post it. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t, but you could see how it would be a PITA when on mobile and all you wanted to do was write a short response.
Still no real idea what “instances” are and no idea if I am missing out on entire subs because I am on .world. No clue. Do people on .world only see this? 🤷
The layout on the website is barely passable. The link to go see a comment that was posted for you is just in an awkward location. I’m almost never sure what sub a post is coming from because the name of the person, the language it is in, and some other stuff is all fairly indistinguishable. Like seriously, there has to be someone on the Lemmy team that has some kind of graphic design background who could pipe in and spice up the UI a little.
There are random hangouts for seemingly no reason. Is it because of how much the Lemmy population has exploded over the last few weeks or problems with a link or what? Some feedback would be super helpful.
Why so many subs (are they called subs here?) with zero content. Not even like old content… literally go there and nothing is posted. At all. That is not conducive to growing a sub. If there are squatters who came here and loaded up on a bunch of sub names just to say they have them, and are not doing anything with those subs, then take the name back. No one is going to post a comment to a sub with zero threads. This is only hurting the community.
I have seen so much more porn on a single night of reddit than I have the entire time I’ve been on lemmy. I feel this is just a weird psyop to scare people away from the “degenerate leftist place!”
“We have not seen any material reaction from consumers,” P&G CFO Andre Schulten said. “So that makes us feel good about our relative position.”
There it is folks. Straight from the horse’s mouth. They won’t do what’s in the best interest of humanity without “material reaction” (ie; an arsonist or maybe even something more extreme.)
Where I’m from you still have to go through someone who makes sure all of the shit in your cart is in your receipt, it adds like 30-60 seconds and it’s a single employee for six checkouts.
I know Costco and Walmart do that. The majority of normal grocery stores around me do not. That’s one reason I rarely go to Costco or Walmart. With Costco they have cashiers as well, so it seems like they don’t need to have the 2nd person. It feels like they assume customers are criminals until proven otherwise.
Criminal until proven otherwise for checking that you didn’t miss anything in your cart? That’s extreme, people do make mistakes, if you actually want to steal you can still pocket stuff, the employee likely won’t give two shits since that’s a job for a security guard like it’s always been.
If you’re paranoic about being perceived as a potential criminal that’s fine, you do you, but labeling any sort of basic control as an accusation is not cool, might as well label the presence of a security guard as such.
At Costco they have cashiers and they have your cart and verify it’s empty/everything was scanned. I’m not really sure what the 2nd check is for, other than wasting time.
If it’s all self-checkout it makes sense that they may check receipts. Where I’m at I’ve never seen the two linked. We self-checkout, then walk out, or go see a cashier, then get checked again. So when receipt checking came up I jumped to my experience there, which was alway separate from self-checkouts.
It really should be 5% off if I have to scan my own crap. Especially the way CVS et al do it. Home Depot is the only one I don't care about because they just give you a wireless scanner and let you go to town, it's honestly faster that way and mutually beneficial.
The problem is society in general. We SHOULD be getting rid of every non-rewarding job we can. But we also need to support the people that would otherwise have these jobs.
This one has always been weird for me because I was in the military before female became an incel term and we regularly referred to women as females. Female officer, female berthing, female uniform standards…
Germany was only 75 years old in 1941; for all we know it'd be some totally new country that ended up conquering everything. "Hail to Field Marshal Bing Bong Potatoman, ruler of our great glorious Zambonian Empire"
What if Hitler was the best case scenario result of time traveler interference? He bungled a lot of decisions someone like Himmler probably wouldn’t have. What if WWII is ultimately unavoidable, and every other timeline was way worse?
Maybe Hitler is actually a time traveller that pretends to be a nazi because from his timeline, the german fascist took over the world was way worse so he had to join the nazis to defeat the nazis? Maybe the Holocaust was like 10 times worse in his timeline and he intentionally did stupid decisions to reduce the kill count.
Oh you! Nice prank! You knew I'd try to drink it and filled the glass with wallpaint as a trap, eh? You got me good! Now do me a favor and call the poison hotline, you cheeky bugger!
