The money from the fountain gets collected and sent to Caritas, a catholic charity that focuses on health, disaster relief, poverty, and migration. I am a Queer atheist person in Spain that uses their services and they haven’t once made my queerness an issue. Nor have they exposed me to their religious views.

So, shrug, I’m not gonna shit on them doing the tradition that many diplomatic events in Rome do.

DreadPirateShawn ,

Objectively, it sounds like it’s an innocent tradition and a healthy charity.

Subjectively, it’s tone-deaf af, when the rule-makers perform superstition for such a massive world-changing problem. Basically “thoughts and prayers.”

MBM ,

I can guarantee you that nobody did this with the idea it’d help fight climate change

ehrenschwan ,

+1 for Caritas. My mum, a non-religous person, worked for them for quite some time and I’ve never heard a bad thing from her.

Pantoffel ,

A friend once applied for a job at Caritas in Germany and got rejected for the reason of not being catholic, but christian. I think you could argue that is okay, but by German law it actually is not.

TheFriendlyDickhead ,

I realy don’t understand why the church still gets to do so many things that are simply not legal. It seems like the law that they have to follow is an older version.

NathanielThomas ,

My aunt works for Caritas in Germany. They do seem like they do good work, even if they believe in the whole resurrected vampire man who was birthed by a virgin and impregnated by a dude who flooded the world for fun.

Syrc ,

Wait what does Jesus have in common with vampires? I’ve always seen him represented more as a Zombie (?)

NathanielThomas ,

You’re right, zombie

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot ,

He’s a reverse-vampire. He makes other people drink his blood.

I think that was on purpose.

Of course. It was a miracle from an uncaring god!

Blackmist , in Here we go again

You wish that was happening.

I’m preparing to be completely unsurprised that Firefox’s market share will still be at 3% next month and the month after that.

propaganja ,

If that 3% is made up of an outsized share of power users they might be ok. I’m more worried about the power structure shenanigans that have been going on the past few years.

Deebster ,
@Deebster@lemmy.ml avatar

I alway wonder how underreported the Firefox figures are by things like that its users are generally more technical/privacy aware (so are blocking the trackers that report these numbers) and also spiders and bots often pretend to to Chrome (inflating those numbers).

I went on a date once and was talking about my garden, I mentioned not particularly caring for flowers other than to attract pollinators.

She said “wtf is pollination?”

Ummm… Did you skip 3rd grade? Lol I could forgive that, but then she started talking about stealing shit from some “annoying guy” at a bar.

She’s definitely stupid enough to sleep with me, but I have to live with myself every day after that. Lol

Can’t hurt or tell the rich what to do for the 99% /s

chic_luke , in Feels good to win boys

Well, this is my first 30 minutes on Lemmy as a Reddit refugee and this is a primer of the content quality I see. Very encouraging.

Besides, the problem with these boomer-y posts is that, in a relationship, it should be you two vs. the problem, not one against the other. In the latter case, the relationship doesn’t work.

An old Emo Philips joke… At least that’s the first place I heard it back in the 80s.

Duke_Nukem_1990 , in we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas

When was this? Merkel and her party luckily aren’t in the government anymore.

unexposedhazard ,

Well the current coalition isnt really doing any better in that regard. All they seem to care about is condemning climate protesters and the usual corrupt behaviour that we know from the CDU…

Duke_Nukem_1990 ,

There would never have been a Deutschlandticket with CDU. Fuck FDP but at least neither Grüne nor SPD is openly fellating the AfD Nazis like the current CDU is doing.

unexposedhazard ,

“… in that regard.” I generally prefer our current government, but that does not morally prevent me from critizicing them and shitting on their bad behavior. Better != Good

Karyoplasma ,

Deutschlandticket should have been a wake-up call for the desolate state of public transport.

For years and years DB complained that they cannot provide a more broadly available service because there is not enough public interest. Factual statements about the booking process for interstate travel and high fares for short travels were swept aside as hearsay.

Suddenly, public interest piqued because of the Deutschlandticket and it was a disaster with a capital D. Who got the blame? The company that failed to expand even tho they had a monopoly-by-law for over 60 years and that doesn’t pay for the infrastructure they are using to make profit? No, it was the customers of course.

What came of the whole ordeal? Absolutely fucking nothing. Business as usual.

NathanielThomas ,

Condemning climate protesters isn’t anything unique to politicians. We would all be behind them if they blockaded billionaire homes but sitting on highways only makes us despise them like we do PETA.

Duke_Nukem_1990 ,

despise them like we do PETA.

So you are saying you gotten got by yet another lobbying campain?

LexiconBexicon ,
@LexiconBexicon@lemmynsfw.com avatar

If you cared then it wouldn’t matter where they protested

NathanielThomas ,

I’m powerless to do anything. Preventing me from moving my car from point A to B doesn’t make me motivated to stop climate change, it motivates me to see you arrested.

Protest a billionaire or a politician and I’m behind you.

Chariotwheel ,

Boris Johnson was already 2 prime ministers ago.

Thanks for the fact-check. I hate that we’ve gotten to ragebait on Lemmy as well.
