It also helps to remember the vast majority of users are children under the age of about 24. That really puts things in perspective.

Uncle_Iroh ,

Do you see a 22 year old as a child? Lol.

BallsInTheShredder ,

Unironically yes. Of course when I was around that age I didn’t but now I really do. As far as maturity I don’t see a major difference between an 18 year old and 22 year old. So you attended school a few more years? Entered the workforce for a few years? That’s not maturity imo but maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I wouldn’t say child but definitely still in the teenager category imo although they’re not actually teens ofc

Sanyanov ,

Wonder how this will change once you reach, like, 60 :D Would anyone under 40 be a child?

solstice ,

It’s a reasonable thought and I’m curious too. Didn’t Treebeard call Gandalf young once, and Gandalf is like 8,000 years old or something?

That said, I haven’t seen or felt much change from early 30s vs late 30s, compared to a huge difference from early vs late 20s. My dad is almost 70 and I think of him as young-ish. Certainly not old anyway (although I know plenty of people a bit younger than him that I consider “old”.) I asked him recently what he considers old and he said 85 or so. Guess it’s all relative.

solstice ,

I sure do. It’s surprising you would disagree, so I’d guess that you are either very young yourself, or unaware of the facts. I’m almost north of the 40 border and the interns and junior associates at work literally look like children to me.

I’m not a neurologist but it’s pretty much understood and accepted that brains aren’t fully formed until 24 or 25, particularly in terms of judgement and rational though and emotion.

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3621648/

I’m an SME in a technical field (tax) so I need only refer to literally any thread to see abundant examples of petulant whiny children screaming about technical shit they don’t understand. I remind myself that these are very young immature people still wet behind the ears, with very little real word experience, before engaging them in debate.

I’ve been to Italy many times (wife’s from there). Yes the pizza is amazing. Yes in almost every case. Yes they do not understand pineapple on pizza.

But they are wrong. Those fuckers sometimes put boiled eggs and shit on there which ruin it.

Just because somewhere invests something doesn’t mean they have ultimate and final say. Hamburgers came from Germany and I know our fatasses got those things perfected here.

Pineapple on pizza is amazing

LeFantome ,

Italians did not invent pizza.

Fruit on pizza is wrong.

Tomatoes are not a fruit.

diskmaster23 ,

Has the whole world gone upside down?

Cabrio ,

Knowledge is knowing tomatoes are a fruit, wisdom is not putting them in fruit salad.

reev ,

Tomatoes are the only good thing about salad!

Bakwerk ,

Pizza has historically had fruit on it. There are wallpaintings in Pompei depicting it. Pizza has historically had pretty much everything on it.

Man I remember some nasty scrolling sessions visiting that sub, the opposite ones, and the rest of the US Vs EU corners of Reddit. Really riled me up that stuff, made sure not to sub to these topics because they get real toxic real fast. The SAS one was the mildest though and you could get a good laugh but I’d find outraged Americans in the comments, follow their profile and end up in /conservative or worse, following some morbid curiosity.

Soundhole ,

This is the most controversial comment I have ever seen.

marmo7ade ,

It’s lame rage bait. Tomatoes are a fruit, it’s science.

Soundhole ,

Yes, thank you, that was the joke.

Hypersapien ,

Tomatoes are both a fruit and a vegetable

marmo7ade ,

Tomatoes are not native to Italy. They were imported from Central America to Italy by the Spanish.

Next time a dumbass Italian tries to gate keep pizza, remind them of this fact: Tomatoes are American. And watch them go nuclear.

Buffalox , in Mild cases of death

For sure instead of having your child scarred for life from a vaccine like the picture shows, a mild case of death is preferable.

Stay safe out there, vaccines contain stuff with long words that sound dangerous. There are also many rumors that vaccines can cause all sorts of weird things you wouldn’t believe.

In case you wonder, this is sarcasm.

Just yesterday I was about to eat an orange from the supermarket, but then someone told me these contain (2R)-2-[(1S)-1,2-dihydroxyethyl]-3,4-dihydroxy-2H-furan-5-one. I mean seriously, I can’t even pronounce this - the question is who benefits from adding these chemicals to our fruits? The government?

Luckily for me though, I replaced oranges with a healthy dose of Cheerios™ and I’m feeling very healthy and refreshed.

TonyTonyChopper ,

Chemist here, no clue what this was at first glance. Hell’s bells IUPAC names for organic molecules are ugly. It’s ascorbic acid.

kadu ,
@kadu@lemmy.world avatar

That’s why we biologists don’t ever touch IUPAC names.

Does it come from an orange? Great, now it’s called orangy acid. Works fine for us.

What’s that? Sugar from a fruit? Fructose. Don’t bother us.

I recently saw a TV commercial for Little Caesars Pizza, where they’re now offering a limited-edition pineapple-flavored Pepsi as part of a meal deal. That way, you can have your pineapple flavor without necessarily pissing off the “no pineapple on pizza” purists among those you’re sharing the pizza with.

Whether anyone will like pineapple-flavored Pepsi is up for debate.

prim3r ,

I’m not sure going to Little Caesars is going to please any pizza purists.
