Neverwinter Nights on my phone. Third or fourth playthrough (first ones were on PC). Absolutely cooks the battery, but entertains for hours while travelling as long as I can plug in. I really wish BeamDog would have spent a little more time optimizing it.

Next will be Icewind Dale and will be my first playthrough I think. Then I might go back to NWN for some of the community quests.

Do the NWN games offer better combat feedback than the 2e Infinity Engine games? It was a real pain point in Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 (especially 2) that it would just tell me something didn't work without telling me why it didn't work, and modern RPGs will show you the full dice rolls so that you can understand why.

You can show the log and see dice rolls.

Bloodborne - barely remember anything from the last time I played it. It’s still so good even with 30fps and meh graphics. The very first area (central yharnam) is better than anything in LotF, so good.

Recently started playing Wayfinders. It’s not a 10/10 MMO, but it’s still fun and has potential

There should be a cutoff period for game updates. Give them about a year to finish the game they released and that’s it.

Firing up the old PS2 and playing some Odin Sphere

calabast , in Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of January 14th

Sinking even more hours of my life into Path of Exile. Also been playing some Cobalt Core on my steam deck I got for Christmas.

BeardedSingleMalt , in What difficult games/game challenges did you give up on?

2 very recent ones on PS5

  • God of War Ragnarok: I did the story and as much f the side missions and challenges as possible. But there are a few Berserker Graves, and the final Valkyrie Gna that no matter how many times I tried it would just get absurd. I almost threw my controller through my TV a few times when trying to roll-dodge to the side for an attack after they’ve already jumped at you and, i shit you not, they change direction in mid-air.
  • Spider-Man: I did 100% the main game, all the side-quests and collectibles just not all the skills. Did all but the last DLC, but finally ragequit when trying to do the base tokens. Interior with tight corners. and you have to take out a dozen enemies including the whip-enemies attacking you from all directions…while rockets are being fired at you in the middle of 5 enemies.
Stillhart ,

Oh yeah, I hated the God of War reboot. It was so cool for like 15 minutes. Then I got to the actual combat and I couldn’t stand it. It was nothing like the original, it was hard AF, it used button combinations I’ve never seen before (I think it’s based on Souls games?), etc. It was so disappointing.

I don’t mind Souls games, but I kind of hate how so many games lately (especially sequels) have been trying to low-key fit the genre when nobody asked them to. God of War, Darksiders 3…

delitomatoes , in What difficult games/game challenges did you give up on?

Puzzle games like Baba and high skill ceiling platformers like Celeste, Meat Boy.

Soulsborne games are just soothing now. Dodge dodge hit, roll, heal, item, run

BeardedSingleMalt ,

I tried Baba and really enjoyed it to start. But once I hit a wall, way earlier than I thought I would, I did touch it for like another year, and haven’t played it since.

Quake Live

Turmbaumeister , in Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of January 7th

I’ve given another chance to Lords of the Fallen as I’ve realised I might have held it to the absurdly high standard of the masterpiece that is Lies of P and it’s a fun game, I’ve just reached the last dungeon.

It has a ton of problems: the jump is terrible, the lock on mechanic is the worst I’ve ever seen, camera is bad, the only challenge the designers seem to know is to gank the player with 50 enemies all the time, quests can be failed by beating a boss too early, selling an item(no buy back) or opening doors, bosses are kind meh and so on BUT it somehow is still fun and good, it’s like it’s more than the sum of its parts. 8/10 and I actually would recommend it.

I’d suggest valheim but I’m not sure how is the performance nowadays, our rented servers struggled a lot with only 3-4 people and I think 10 is the max. Sailing was especially very laggy and glitchy because if it unfortunately.

HumbleFlamingo ,

The issue with Valheim is it’s not really a dedicated server. It’s more of a shared saved game repository.

Whoever gets to a region first is the host, and everyone nearby connects to them. If that person has a slow machine, or high latency to the other players it can be really painful. When I was playing with friends, we banned one person from entering dungeons first because they had the worst computer in the group and it was really bad for the rest of us. Same thing with our main base, if they wound up the host, they’d disconnect and log back in so someone else would become host.

I played “The Expanse” (on Linux PC) and I enjoyed it so much that I didn’t put the controller down for over 6 hours (beko.famkos.net/x/1CMPu)

Just recently started my fourth playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3, with occasionally playing Starfield and Divinity Original Sin 2.
