Crocs (The shoe, not the animal) 🐊

To those wearing crocs, what are they like? Are they soft and comfy as the media portrays them to be?

Are they suitable for summer and out about?

I wore sandals before (jesus shoes I call them), they’re not bad but crocs seems to interest me.

Second question, why should I get some crocs? Pros/Cons?

I was a Crocs hater for the longest time. Finally I needed some new shoes for doing tasks outside (gardening, etc) and on a whim got some Crocs. They’re pretty comfy and very convenient to slip on real fast to go outside.

JIMMERZ ,

I never had regular crocs, but have had a pair of the sandals and slides. Longest lasting sandals I’ve had and they’re rather comfortable.

BillDaCatt ,

I like my Crocs, but for me they are not a very good shoe for my feet.

I have one pair of Crocs that I bought last year. First thing I noticed was the textured footbed. It’s kinda spiky and not very comfortable to me. I have been amazed at all of the comfort claims due to this. You can and do get used to it, but the first couple of weeks is not comfortable at all.

Also, I’m a big guy and Crocs don’t offer much in the way of arch support. I have never had arch issues until I wore Crocs on a regular basis.

Off topic shout out: why not Chaco sandals for home and/or for going out?

It’s off topic, but OP mentioned having used sandals, so he can maybe consider them a good option

Bluu ,

Love crocs. Wear them all the time. I don’t really care if other people think they are ugly. They are comfortable, so I wear them.

Pros: easy to clean, can be good rain/pool/beach shoes because it’s fine to get them wet, come in a lot of different styles and colors, easy to slip on and off, not too expensive

Cons: most people think they are ugly, they can squeak when wet, they shrink of left in direct sunlight

I have other shoes as well, but wear Crocs quite often. I injured my foot a while back and my podiatrist suggested wearing shoes around the house for additional cushion while my foot healed. Funny enough, when I asked what kind of shoes, he suggested Crocs.

KittenBiscuits ,

I have a generic pair that were basically my shoes for chores around the yard (the yard is marshy in places). I rarely wore them to the store or out in general, but found them really comfortable.

Well, I go and break my big toe a few weeks ago. I have a velcro splint on it, and bought one of those post surgery shoes. It was clunky and awful. The best thing about it was the boxy toe area which helped keep me from stubbing my toe again.

I tried for maybe 2 days to wear it, but then I remembered my crocs. And they have been the perfect toe protectors, plus not being awkward to walk in.

Bluu ,

They seem to be great foot recovery shoes. I wore mine for like 6 months on and off in the house while my foot healed.

vaionko ,

I like a pair for going outside while I’m at home. If I exit the property though, always real shoes.

I was against them for years. As a prank, a friend bought me bright yellow ones. I only wore them privately in the house.

I wore them down after 10 years and finally just replaced them. I have a fancier slipper style pair for when I go to peoples houses. I can’t not wear them now. Buy them. Love them. They’re cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Magical.

HubertManne ,

I use them everyday. Basically I wear them unless I can't which is when there is to much rain or snow or reeeaaalllly cold temps and im going to be out for awhile (basically you will only be as warm as your socks). They are about as comfortable as any other shoe and I have even used inserts with them but they are comfortable enough that inserts are negligable. I use them when at work and standing for a long time. Main pros are cheep and super easy maintenance since you gan throw them in a bucket of water or hose them off or whatever.

Kaput ,

Mines are used for; backyard shoes when I’m not going anywhere, they live in the balcony, rough basement area, another pair lives there. I take them with me when camping, to lounge around and to kayak. They’re basically outside slippers.

This is the way

Nikls94 ,

And: you can cook them clean! (They do this in hospitals)

graeghos_714 ,

IMO no comparison to a nice pair of sandals. My grandkids got me some with pins? or whatever they’re called in them. They’re like slippers around the house and about as comfie but walking they’re not as nice as good sandals and driving in them is not great. However it is nice having an enclosed toe. If I had been wearing my sandals on a walk the other night when I caught a stick with the tip of the shoe it would have torn up my toe so they do offer more protection than an open toe sandal

Hang on to your suspenders: I wear crocs 24/7/365

Summer, rain, snow, work, whatever. A pair lasts about 2 years now, in the past they where more sturdy. After a while you’re going to, first, slip on wet surfaces because of the sole being completely bald, then you’ll go through and get wet feet (or a rusty nail).

It so lightweight, so flickable away, once you start you can’t come back. I always get the “crocband clogs” in red, they don’t have lateral holes which, yeah, is more practical irl when you daily them.

Phen ,

My wife got a pair and she liked them, but she also got an offbrand one she likes a lot more.

Pros: Crocs are cheap birth control

Cons: Crocs are cheap birth control

WhyAUsername_1 ,

It’s a normal rubber/foam . Nothing fancy. I don’t mind the ugly look tbh. But I would not advise someone to go out of their way to get crocs.

Go to a shop. Try it out. See how you feel. There’s nothing more to it than that. If you like it, then get it. Else get something else.

schwim ,

I think this is suitable here.

I tried them in a store after years of being against them due to aesthetics.

Was expecting them to be much softer and marshmallowy. They weren’t bad or anything, just not what I was expecting. For something to be that ugly (to me) and it just being some molded foam, it was still to expensive and not my look to be something for me.

I got a pair of Olukai sandals and a pair of Chacos that day. Both feel like much more shoe for the money. They both have great arch support. The Olukai are cushiony and comfy and good looking. The Chacos are rock solid in a good way. They can also be restrapped and resoled, so they won’t end up in the trash near as fast.
