I enjoy some of the memes but it's clear it's just another self diagnosed "omg i got ocd, im so quirky" fad. being pumped full of ritalin during a developmental phase or at any point is not as fun as it's made out to be
So totally hear you but some stats to add perspective (all from wiki):
~2% of the world has red hair
~2% of American’s identify as homosexual
~5% of American’s are suspected to have ADHD with 90% of them undiagnosed
So if this is accurate then that means roughly one out of every twenty people you walk by on the street has ADHD. Do people over use the term? Yes. Do most people underestimate how frequent it is? Also yes.
Further consider what happens when you give a people who are by definition poorly equiped to restrain themselves social media access and a relatable or spicy topic :p
I’ll throw down a recommendation for ground news (app). They take the news, organize it and show you the same article from left center and right. They show you your blind spots in news as well (stuff that is on the other side of you).
Anyone have anything against it or other recommendations?
I’ve found ground news to have a right slant. Both the owner and developer have traditionally right leaning interests. I don’t find the stories that get “promoted” to the front of ground ot be all that neutral.
I could be talking out my ass, but after trying to use ground for a few weeks, I felt that I was seeing more and more right wing talking points than what I consider neutral news.
I like the concept but I want something I can run locally (and update by myself) in a docker container or a Virtual Machine. I’m tired of online service changing their products for the worse or increasing prices because they feel like it.
I kinda like to block political memes too but I’m keeping them around for now since Lemmy doesn’t have enough content so I’ll just downvote but still browse all. This one gets points in my book for being meta, unspecific, and not being a screenshot of another social media site that I’m not on specifically because I don’t want to see that shit.
I had one of the old fashioned distorted text ones the other day, but instead of something like “please enter the text above” it just said “are you human?” next to the text box. Naturally, I typed “yes” but that turned out to be the wrong answer.
