It’s pretty clean. I moved here a few years ago and have never gotten the feeling that it’s dirty. Around the homeless camps though it can be a little rough though.
Been here 15 years now… By comparison to 2008, Seattle is a wreck. The turning point was around 2015 when Amazon decided to make it their permanent HQ. Pre vs post 2015 rent prices are insane. I had a top-floor waterfront place on Lake Washington for $850 until 2015.
I wouldn’t necessarily put that on Amazon coming in. That’s been the trend in all cities over the past 10 years. Even suburban areas are feeling it. Hopefully remote work pushes up populations in smaller towns so other non-remote growth can occur in more affordable areas.
Our population increased by tens of thousands in the first year as a million result of the announcement by Amazon that Seattle would be the permanent HQ. Following that, tons of cheaply made, overpriced housing was put up all over the city. Businesses were priced out and knocked down to make way for the shitty people-boxes.
Seattle is a geographically constrained area that was already at capacity. Blue collar workers and service industry folk were priced out and pushed into surrounding areas. Traffic and congestion increased. Homelessness skyrocketed.
I would agree that the issue is widespread, but in this case, correlation and causation line up.
It’s rough everywhere, I know. Shit like this article discusses doesn’t help. Austin, TX was also reeling from the use of software like this. I’m sure other places are as well.
To be fair, it was the largest cavalry charge in history. Between 30 and 40000 horsemen charging is insane. To put that into a comprehendible context, the charge of the rohirim you see in the Return of the King had 5000 horses. The largest charge in the Napoleonic wars (iirc) was Murats desperation charge at the battle of Eylau with 11000 cavalry, which somewhat won the day and is considered one of the great cavalry charges in history.
This charge was 3 to 4 times larger. It was truly a hurricane of vengeance.
That’s literally every place with more than 1 shift or department, it’s easy to blame coworkers instead of management for running an understaffed and undertrained op
Sunburnt nipples are no joke, mine as sensitive enough to shirts I have to put bandaids over them on e or twice a year… sunburnt nipples would be total hell.
The biggest problem is that many people require the grind because we lack enough systems to ensure basic needs are met for them. When the grind is the only way to feed your family and afford rent, you gotta grind. The best way to break grind culture is to ensure that basic needs are met only requiring a standard work week and a single job.
I don’t ingest a lot of right wing media, but it mighg make sense because people who ingest right wing media are usually living in an echo chamber and are gullible. 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
The us right is the local bourgeoisie and it’s propaganda is intended for everyone so everyone doesn’t climb over the fences and eat them alive. The us “left” is the national bourgeoisie and their propaganda is directed at their members and collaborators so as to maintain unity.
At this point, we need to pull a page out of Iceland’s book. They arrested their bankers over bailing them out. We need to do the same, only include politicians on the menu too.
I wonder if that has anything to do with the growth of the right.
No doubt plays a role, but I’d say it has more to do with the media’s obsession with getting paid. They are a business first and foremost, journalistic integrity be damned. They pushed stories they knew would get clicks without any regard to the facts or properly framing the issue.
Yeah pay walls don’t help but they didn’t cause the issues we’re seeing. Those that follow the actual fake news that conservatives push weren’t reading articles anyway, the paywall wasn’t what kept them from reading and researching properly.
It’s actually frightening how much is spent on right wing propaganda. I know there are whole businesses dedicated to posting on social media pretending to be genuine users. The last election in Illinois they mailed out fake newspapers with all kinds of nonsense in them. They even have country music tours that go to small towns with political messaging.
