It’s true that we have the lines. There’s no evidence that cats can see them, but it’s theorized that they can. Here’s a good article.

This doesn’t mention politics, and these street preachers have been around forever in Canada. It’s been a thing for so long that that Edmonton has a landmark named “Pride Corner” with a pride flag in one spot where those preachers would commonly preach.
