I’m more interested in the fact that the waltons divulged something around 5.36 Billion USD with multiple family members liquidating their entire walmart holdings.
Riemann Labs is one of three Indian drugmakers whose cough syrups have been linked to the deaths of at least 141 children in Gambia, Uzbekistan and Cameroon since the middle of last year.
That has cast a shadow on the quality of exports from India, often dubbed the “world’s pharmacy” due to its supply of life-saving drugs at low prices to countries that most need them.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said in July that a sample picked up from Cameroon of Naturcold syrup, whose maker India has identified as Riemann, contained as much 28.6% of the toxin of diethylene glycol, compared with an acceptable limit of no more than 0.10%.
An inspection at Riemann’s factory by state and federal regulators in June had found violations including improper ventilation, raising the risk of cross contamination, the sources said.
The other Indian cough syrup makers linked to the overseas deaths have also applied to reopen their factories, Reuters has reported.
India has made tests mandatory for cough syrup exports since June and has stepped up scrutiny of drugmakers, finding a string of deficiencies in recent inspections including poor documentation and a lack of self-assessment.

This shit just gives credibility to ecoterrorists. Bread and Circuses won’t make the climate habitable. We’ll have to make a bunch of very rich people very unhappy and I think we can live with that. The rest of us are already suffering, whats one or two more conveniences?
Marcos’ father, the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos Sr, was a steadfast U.S. ally who was deposed in 1986 after Filipinos revolted against his regime. The elder Marcos was accused of orchestrating the detention and killing of thousands of political enemies and illegally siphoning billions of dollars from public coffers. He died in exile in Hawaii in 1989 without facing trial. After his death, family members returned to the Philippines, where they have remained a force in politics.
…
Araneta, Marcos’ brother-in-law, told Reuters that the president and his family had long felt “betrayed” by Washington for the U.S. role in supporting the change of government that pushed the elder Marcos from power. Still, Araneta said, Marcos Jr is a pragmatist who spent a lot of time thinking before his election about “how to get the Americans back” for the sake of the Philippines’ economy and security.
The Biden administration lost no time in trying to reset relations. After Biden’s congratulatory call, the U.S. president sent Marcos an invitation to the White House. In September 2022, the two met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
I guess that is what I found curious - he and family exiled in the USA. Surely that meant relations couldn't have been that bad, no?
Adding edit since I think I am failing to say what I want to say- it seems to me that relations were good, even after 1.0's removal from power, and the family just had a grudge. Connections seemed to have been maintained at least for the rest of 1.0's life. Is this true? Does it matter? Did this connection lish Jr towards the US instead of China?
The Philippines generally has a positive view of the US. But from 2016 to 2022, the relationship deteriorated because the Filipino president at the time (Rodrigo Duterte) tried courting China, but it didn’t pan out. A quote from the article:
Manila-based political analyst Julio Amador III described the U.S. outreach as “unprecedented love-bombing” aimed at resetting the U.S.-Philippines relationship. Marcos’ predecessor, the populist firebrand Rodrigo Duterte, was openly hostile to the United States and attempted to bring his country closer to communist China during his six-year term.
In a statement to be announced at the event in Dubai, the group, including the World Bank and regional peers, said the window of opportunity to secure a liveable planet was “rapidly closing”.
With global emissions rising and despite United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres telling world leaders on Friday that ending fossil fuel use was the only way to save the planet, the statement made no direct mention of the issue.
To date, the European Investment Bank is the only one of the signatories to sign the so-called ‘Glasgow Declaration’ and committed to stop lending to fossil fuel projects, with burning of the energy sources responsible for the bulk of human-induced greenhouse gas emissions.
Going forward, the banks said they plan to agree a common approach to tracking and reporting climate impact, and would scale up the use of analytics to help countries identify priorities and investment opportunities.
A new, joint Long-term Strategies Program, hosted by the World Bank, would coordinate support to help countries and sub-national entities develop plans around issues including decarbonisation and climate resilience.
The group also pledged to help countries set up platforms to encourage a “collectively reinforcing combination” of support including around policy reform, finance and technical assistance.

At least four people were killed and at least 50 injured after a bomb exploded during a morning Catholic Mass in a university gymnasium in Marawi, a city in the south of the country besieged by Islamist militants for five months in 2017.
In Rome, Pope Francis offered prayers for the victims during his Sunday address, and, in a separate written message, appealed to “Christ the prince of peace (to) grant to all the strength to turn from violence and overcome every evil with good.”
Law enforcement operations to bring to justice the perpetrators of the “terrorist activity” will “continue unabated”, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro told a press conference.
The blast in Marawi, capital of Lanao del Sur province, followed a series of military operations against local pro-Islamic State groups in the southern Philippines, the military chief said, including one on Sunday in Lanao del Sur that led to the killing of a leader of the Dawlah Islamiya-Maute group.
Military officials surveyed the gym at the Mindanao State University, which appeared intact except for burn marks in the centre where the explosion occurred, according to images shared by the Lanao del Sur government on Facebook.
Mindanao State University is “deeply saddened and appalled by the act of violence that occurred during a religious gathering,” the school posted on Facebook.

On Tuesday, Johnson, who is Black, criticized Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s busing effort during a press conference, calling it “right-wing extremism” that was intentionally targeting cities “led by people of color.”
hey, if you dont want a massive flood of illegal aliens bused to your city, then get your federal representatives/governor to fix the immigration issue - or, you know, bus them somewhere else
Since April 2022, Texas has bused more than 66,000 migrants to six Democratic-run cities, four of which have Black mayors - Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and Washington.
It's not a flood but a regular thing Republicans do.
I don’t understand. Since when can the Feds just waltz onto private property and destroy fencing on it?
The 4th Amendment:
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
The wire was put there by Texas. It’s not the property of the land owner.
Texas is pouring on a theatrical production to say the border isn’t being controlled by the Biden administration. The Biden administration is removing the props for the theater production.
