Falcon Sensor is one of the most popular security products in Windows servers. Practically every large company purchases Crowdstrike services to protect their servers.
People who aren’t affected:
Linux and Mac servers
Private individuals and smaller businesess who have Windows machines that don’t buy CrowdStrike services.
Companies that bothered to create proper test environments for their production servers.
People who are affected:
Companies that use Windows machines, buy Falcon Sensor from Crowdstrike, and are too stupid/cheap to have proper update policies.
In terms of numbers, we don’t know how many people are affected or how much it will cost. A lot. Globally. Flights were grounded, surgeries rescheduled, bank transfers and payments interrupted, and millions of employees couldn’t turn on their computers this morning.
Does anyone know how these Cloudstrike updates are actually deployed? Presumably the software has its own update mechanism to react to emergent threats without waiting for patch tuesday. Can users control the update policy for these ‘channel files’ themselves?
These channel files are configuration for the driver and are pushed several times a day. It seems the driver can take a page fault if certain conditions are met. A mistake in a config file triggered this condition and put a lot of machines into a BSOD bootloop.
I think it makes sense that this was a preexisting bug in the driver which was triggered by an erroneous config. What I still don’t know is if these channel updates have a staged deployment (presumably driver updates do), and what fraction of machines that got the bad update actually had a BSOD.
Yeah. It also affected banks, hospitals, retailers, distributors… someone definitely got fired. And it’s not even something that can be fixed remotely.
Unless it was for a Bear 🐻🐨… depending on the bear and your personal fitness you may be better off not running out. But mostly always it’s better to run out of a Bear’s way.
I’ve published a simillar app to the play store (a calculator for keeping track of your stats in a game) and it got denied because it had no privacy policy, and I had to add one. Maybe that’s why they need to include it?
I would believe that but I’m pretty sure this is the default Google calculator. It looks like the same one that’s on my Pixel. And when I click on the privacy policy thing it takes me to Google’s privacy policy so who knows what the calculator is doing.
Then perhaps it’s because Google should follow their own rules? I mean, I still think it’s dumb to have a privacy policy on a calculator, but if that’s what they ask from other devs maybe they do this to look good?
Otherwise, getting tracked by a calculator is really a low 😅
Yeah I really hope this is just them following the rules and instead of putting in the work hours for their lawyers to make a privacy policy for their calculator they just have a standard one they use and not them using the calculator to gather data. But it is Google so I wouldn’t be surprised.
If you knew there was a dead person next door you might be a little uncomfortable, but could go about your day. If you knew there were 50 dead people next door you would need to get out of there.
The number is relevant, not just the proximity to the closest one.
People are often uncomfortable in graveyards and, for example, would not want to walk through one at night when they would be willing to walk through a field.
The dirt does provide a sort of insulation however, as people would be more willing to walk through a graveyard than through a house that had the same density of corpses in the basement. It’s the theoretical accessibility to the corpse that plays a factor here.
I think it would depend more on how easy it is to open the coffin. If the lead lined coffin has well maintained hinges that allow it to open with little effort, that’s less acceptable than a wooden coffin that is nailed shut.
Corpse acceptability is inversely proportional to corpse accessibility.
I’ve never felt any feeling about being at a cemetery. I performed hundreds of funeral services and it never came up with any of us doing them and we talked about so much shit being stuck together for over a year more or less with exception to a few rotations. I’m unreasonably curious how common/uncommon to feel uncomfortable in graveyards now.
Nobody panics when things go “according to plan.” Even if the plan is horrifying! If, tomorrow, I tell you that, like, you’ll walk through a graveyard, or a morgue, nobody panics, because it’s all “part of the plan”. But when I bring ONE corpse to a job interview, well then everyone loses their minds!
Congratulations? If you use anything beyond stock apps it means you downloaded it, and accepted the privacy policy for it. Even with automatic updates, you logged in and accepted the policy as well. You don’t want it? Erase the app. Freeze it, don’t use it, whatever.
What’s worse is that you don’t even show the permission menu, you just show a notification.
Do what you want, but take at least responsibility for what you accept
That the stock app from my phone. Since a year the manufacturer started to update stock apps and they started to ask more and more permissions. It reached levels so bad that I am looking at the fairphones but I don’t have the money yet. Maybe in a few months or a year. I mean…there’s a LOT to take in here. First off, I see no evidence that Burger King ever claimed to have given him 400K. I see no reason why Burger King WOULD give an employee 400K for not missing work. Yes, it’s a crazy thing that he didn’t miss 27 years, but what would make people expect a min wage job to give a 400K bonus. The guy in the picture doesn’t look like a manager. He looks like a regular employee.

“Hey, my dad is a very reliable Burger King worker. Give us money please!”. I don’t think anyone would donate to that. Instead, I suspect he has a medical issue. And people see a Burger King employee who’s unable to pay medical bills, and THEN I could see people donating. That I would understand. That makes sense. Well, it doesn’t make sense that our medical system is set up in a way that makes it come to this, but once you accept it IS this way, it makes sense that people have empathy.
But none of what I just said is whats being presented. This is being presented as “BOO BURGER KING!!! CORPORATE BADDIES!!! WON’T EVEN GIVE A GUY 400K!!!” when in reality…why would they?
Yes 400k would be surprising. But if the claim is true and he never missed a day in 27 years of working there, and Burger King gave him a goodie bag? That’s on the other end of surprising, like that’s an incredible feat and seriously impressive loyalty to the company. It should be rewarded with something a little more substantial imo
Hi, My name is Seryna. The man in that video is my father. He has worked at his job for 27 years and yes, he has never missed a day of work. He originally began working at this job as a single father when he gained custody of me and my older sister 27 years ago. Then as our family grew and he remarried, he continued to work there because of the amazing health insurance that was provided through this employer because it was unionized. This got all four of his daughters through high school and college with full healthcare coverage.
My dad continues to work there, because though he does look young, he is coming up on retirement age and leaving would cost him his retirement. In no way are we asking for money or is he expecting any money but if anyone feels like blessing him he would love to visit his grandchildren.
I don’t understand. Leaving would “cost” his retirement? Why would he lose it by retiring? Is there a milestone like X years he needs to hit? If so why not stay (if it’s only 3 years, for example). It doesn’t mention him being sick or unable other than age. Why does retiring not use his retirement??
