I’m not aware of any word that changes pronunciation of the first letter by adding a letter at the end. The closest thing we have to GIF is “gift”, being “gif” with an extra “t” at the end. By that logic GIF should be pronounced like “gift” without the “t”.

Yep, that’s exactly how it should be pronounced.

I’m still kinda confused with BTRFS pronounced as “butter fs”… I mean, what kind of butter is it 🤔.

Ah, this reminded me of the old Linklater film Waking Life. Haven’t thought about it for a long time. I used to be really into lucid dreaming when I was young and loved that movie.
