This might sound weird, but I hope it takes a lot of time and he’s still able to run in 2024.
He’s not going to win anyway, but without the split voting and a proven menace to “defeat” DeSantis would have a serious chance, and I don’t like that.
DeSantis has very little support and will drop out of the race long before the election. Also, Bush didn’t win the popular vote. Trump didn’t win the popular vote. They both became president. It’s incredibly dangerous to dismiss him out of hand.
He has little support and will probably drop out because Trump is in the race. If Donnie is forced to drop out the Reps will most certainly flock to DeSantis, I don’t really see a “Trump or Bust” (?) situation happening.
And I think, unless they really manage to mess hard with the popular vote, Trump has very slim chances of winning. Roe v. Wade was a wake-up call to a lot of young people and there’s no way they’ll elect someone they know will make it worse. DeSantis, on the other hand, still isn’t (in)famous enough to guarantee that.
I would not be so quick to say he won’t win. There’s a large contingent of hateful and/or brainwashed people who will vote for him even if he’s convicted. He’s still dangerous and so is DeSantis. These people and their supporters are interested in nothing but power for themselves and they don’t care how they get it.
He lost in 2020. In the meantime a crapton of other charges came out and, most importantly, Roe v. Wade happened, which pushed a lot of young people to vote. I really don’t see him having more chances at winning than an opponent-less DeSantis.
Well he did get elected in Florida so someone has to like him. And if Trump isn’t in the race, you’d catch MAGAs dead before they vote Biden over DeSantis.
Like yeah, it's very annoying having to manually refresh for more content, but at the same time I do appreciate having more time to fully explore my timeline instead of coming back from a post to see they completely discarded my reading place, losing whatever is was looking at, likely forever.
Of course, for quieter networks you may run into the problem of content refreshing too little...

To be fair, I don’t mind the button itself, if it worked as I wanted it to, and could be changed to load from oldest to new, and sustain your scrolling position. But as they do now, you can sustain your position by fiddling with the loading, and you need to load everything to get back to scrolling if you want to read from oldest to newest.
This button was basically designed for people that sort only by popular, but I think I’m not the onlyone who prefers not to have their microblogs pre-curated by popularity, and I really hate it when I am forced to miss posts just because of the general design practices that are designed for commercialized services.
And as I said in another post, the “trending” -statistics of Mastodon is just a peak, and then forgotten. I have my suspicion that it’s because people do not sort by popular, and by end up missing the stuff that has trended, because design choises like the funcrionality of this button. Surely, the other element is the trending algorithm, and how it is pushed, but that’s a whilly different can of worms to open.
