I would understand the excuse more if you let’s say bought a game on Steam, but then Steam went away forever and you lost the game and you don’t want to pay for it again. But by that time the game would be super cheap anyway… Well, unless it was now unavailable, then piracy is the only solution to actually getting it.
Great shot. This angle conveys how ridiculously big that bridge is a lot better than a wide shot. The traffic heading off into the distance gives you the scale very effectively.
And it’s not lifting 500 tons. Each bucket weighs 500 tons (regardless of boat or no boat, due to displacement physics), it is in almost perfect balance. The motor simply has to rotate the mechanism against frictional losses.
I’m a physicist, I know what you’re saying, but I was writing casually and not in a technical manner. You’re also technically wrong, even with zero friction, it wouldn’t move. You have to overcome the inertia then bring it to rest.

Ugh, when I have to open CAD for a project at work I have to setup a new coordinate system with Z going up, every time. The engineers just work with Y up for some reason. Too lazy to change it perhaps? Solid works and Inventor default Y up? I’ll never understand it. I definitely understand this meme. There’s also models with an origin 10 feet off in X and 20 feet out in Y. I just do not friggin get it man.

I’m not American but I’ve been living in the USA for ten years and I still have trouble with imperial measurements. It’s painful dealing with fractions of an inch instead of millimeters.
That’s not true though. While there isn’t a standard, convention is to have z up in mathematics, as z is extending the xy plane we normally work with into a third space.
On paper, when I was learning Descartes’ coordibate system, we used Y as up and X as left-right. And when it was time to plot in 3D, we used Z to “extend” the plane into yourself and away from yourself.
You just hold your sheet of paper perpendicular to the ground (or just use a whiteboard) and it all makes sense.
CAD used to be digital abstraction of the physical media that is 2D drawings on paper, so XY is the plane of the paper going horizontal/vertical, and most detailing are in vertical cross sections so Y ended up being up most of the time.
The Z axis is then Frankensteined into the existing system to get a proper 3D representation, so it became the depth axis for the existing XY plane.
In Minecraft it’s even more evident as Notch Frankensteined the Z axis into a game engine that’s originally developed for side scrolling.
I’m gonna miss Joey, spent a lot of time scrolling. I’m still using it for now until the API changes kick in, then I’m probably gone from Reddit for good after I sort through the saved content that I actually care about.
I rode this train. Top tip, when booking your seats, book the table with 2 seats, not the table with 4. Then you’ll be on the side of the train on the inside of the curve, and get the best view of the train over the viaduct (looking backwards or forwards out the window)
we tried to book the 2 chair VIP experience, but couldnt belive how quickly it filled up. Ended up sharing a seat with another couple who were there from germany, and it was a great time!.
