Lol at people reporting this post for misinformation. Futurama season numbers have always been ill-defined and now we just have to live with it. Be thankful you’re not in the UK where the DVD ordering made it even weirder.

There is new Futurama coming out. Be less cranky and more excited!

Now with googles DRM plans everyone should consider leaving chromium based Browsers.

The only way to retain the little freedom and privacy that we still have is if we start to care and put in at least a bit of resistance.

words_number , to linux in Wondering if I should make multiple partitions or keep it as PopOS made it.

I wouldn’t use multiple partitions anymore. First of all, you would have to decide how large your home and system partitions are which can be annoying later if you either want to install large programs/games on your system or, say, download large videos into your home partition. Apart from that, SSDs life span is reduced if you partition them, because the controller then can’t distribute writes across the while disk, so the cells will not get worn out uniformly.

mudeth ,

The SSD write distribution theory sounds plausible but do you have any sources on that?

I wouldn’t be surprised if SSD controllers distribute writes across partitions, transparently to the OS; if I was an engineer designing these things that’s how I’d do it.

words_number ,

Unfortunately I haven’t got any source. I read that many years ago, so it’s very possible that modern SSDs behave like you suggested.

Lennvor ,

Is it, though?

LouNeko ,

Yes it is. I’ve played Warframe on console (native PC title). It has a cursor and shitty uneven menus. Which means, I don’t play Warframe on console anymore. War Thunder has the same problem but they allow you to use the PS4 controllers touchpad as a mouse, so its not that much of an issue.

The fediverse is the way. I’m not smart enough to say if it’s the best option, but it’s a hell of a lot better than a profit driven monolith run by out of touch investors. Reddit won’t implode but it won’t be the same as it was even a week ago. This decentralized structure is what the internet wants to be.

pistachio ,

It’s either fediverse or nostr. But nostr is more twitter-like than reddit-like and is filled with cryptobros so no thanks no

IMHO the graph is not misleading. It is telling the story that more people are dying due to heat related issues. But yes, you may be right, that the older population contributes to this more but this does not mislead in any way that more people of dying to due heat related issues…

We need more people here. I imagine a lot of Lemmy users use both platforms, maybe one more than the other. Advertising our space is a good thing. Plus, “normies” who have no idea what happened to reddit recently will go to r/place and maybe get educated.

Dass93 ,

I think most Normal Lemmy users are shifting to Lemmy a little by little, in form of forums starts to get created and active.

showmewhatyougot , to mildlyinteresting in in Australia, when we pay taxes, we get a receipt. The receipt shows what our taxes were spent on

Always liked this because it helps people see to some extent where money is going.

I know the UK and Portugal do this as well. It was especially interesting in the UK during the Brexit years because you could see a tiny piece of that pie chart with EU contributions, almost saying “this is how little of our money is going to Europe”, didn’t do any good in the end but hey, still great info to have that all detailed

Risk ,

the UK do this as well

They do?

Well shit, they do! Shame they don’t actually tell you about it actively - as you said, they probably don’t want most people to realise.

hello_cruel_world ,

That welfare budget is a load of of shit, too. If you have a look at the actual breakdown, most goes on housing (read: private landlords) and(!) pensions.

Some crafty fucker in the dwp had the genius idea of splitting up state and civil service pensions, placing civil service pensions under the welfare group to make the welfare bill higher. Out of the welfare budget I think only 5% of that goes on the unemployed. Out of that 5% only 1% of that 5% figure goes to the long term unemployed. (Being on the dole >6months). Yet they only bang on shit the feckless and workshy…

Risk ,

Do you know where I could look for the actual breakdown - I’m not sure what to search for - would it be in the budget documents?
