so true it’s awful you can’t tell posts from ads from what your subscribed too. all for what. I started using reddit with Apollo and it has to be the best app that I’ve chose/chosen to use(probably very close to a human guide lines compliment app too so many options and tweaks). to lose it over money grab ego bolstering is just the nail in the coffin for reddit to me. to think it used to be this place to be exposed to new ideas and topics anf by the way if you have any technical, personal, or financial question you can find some good literal information with a little effort for that too. just a shame our societies fr profit mentality.
Part of the beauty of Lemmy is fracturing intentionally into smaller instances. The content is no less accessable to people who want it, and it’ll hopefully provide a better, more reliable experience by being off lemmy.world on a smaller instance.
I believe many are trying to help reduce the load in lemmy.world, where most new users (including myself) started.
Mentally preparing myself for being locked in a closet with my drugged up dogs who will be a nervous wreck all night and it’s the only place in the house they feel safe in, but I also need to be in there for them to feel safe, and the sounds of the fireworks will be slightly muffled from there.
My dog has fairly recently gone deaf, and the only tiny silver lining is that he’s been completely unfazed by the fireworks we’ve been getting for the past week around us. Good luck tonight!
Thanks! I feel that. My eldest pup is deaf and is no longer freaked out by any loud noises, but he picks up on the younger one’s anxiety. Luckily it’s just fireworks and not thunderstorms that frighten the young one so we only have to deal with this bullshit twice a year.
My childhood dog thought the fireworks were monsters she needed to protect us from. We had to lock her inside because otherwise she'd go charging off towards the sound, barking her head off, ready to unleash 20 pounds of whoopass the moment she found them.
Ive never had to tried it my self but ive heard having relaxing music playing loudly or even like thunderstorm soundtracks can help to mask the booms. Also a heavy blanket/vest wrapped around the dog really helps. I think its called a thunder blanket(?) but its like wrapping them in a constant hug. Ive also had a friend whos dog was prescribed puppy valium for fireworks because it was so bad for the dog.
When we first adopted Pippin, our youngest, he was terrified of thunder storms. He sleeps in bed with me so I began playing thunderstorm sounds and he learned pretty quickly that thunderstorms are no longer a scary thing.
With fireworks, though… we’ve tried everything (including the thunder jacket) and had to resort to meds. Even fireworks on tv or video games send him into a panic. It breaks my heart to seem him so afraid, but all I can do is provide him with a safe spot and snuggles…and puppy Valium.
I agree, based on these statistics. Prior to the obvious jump in bot-farmed accounts, there were about 162000 active users with an active user proportion of about 0.186 (somewhere around >29000 active users).
Now there are 649k lemmy users and an active user proportion of 0.055 (~35600 according to the dashboard). If we assume those 35600 users represent the pre-bot-farming ratio of 0.186, we get 35600/0.186 or about just over 191000.
That’s still an increase of probably 30k true users, unless the proportion of lurkers have also suddenly drastically increased. I don’t think that’s true, because, pre-bot-farming, when the user base started growing with the Reddit debacle, the proportion of active users increased accordingly. I assume that’s because new users are excited to help grow the community.
Still, in the past two days alone active users went up by over 5k (15%). Maybe that’ll continue exponentially, and there’ll be 95k (500k total non-bot) users two weeks from now, or maybe it’ll continue linearly and there’ll be 70k (~385k) users.
I don’t know why I spent so long thinking about this.
