I'd argue one of the most pressing concerns right now is the lack of migration tools
Currently you can't just create an account on instance X and move to Y. You need to create a new account. Eventually if we get the functionality to migrate from one place to another, people will be able to spread out across the fediverse and the risk of a single big server going belly up reduced.
From a technical standpoint if one instance gets defederated from other instances, all the users on that instance are stuffed. Their content won't appear in the wider fediverse (so less engagement)
I’d like to see some sort of export/import functionality as well. Instances will come and go, and it would suck for people on those to just lose their stuff with out having a way to back up/restore it.
It’s mildly inconvenient but yes I would just walk around and budge the bike a few inches out of the way. It’s like carts at the grocery: if someone parks theirs blocking the lane you just shove it aside. With bikes and carts you can do this. People here are acting like this is a misplaced car that cannot be easily be moved aside.
There’s an office building near me where one of the employees parks his Harley Davison motorcycle on the handicapped ramp of an emergency exit. Granted it doesn’t see daily foot traffic but someone in a wheelchair might need to, you know, escape a fire.
I wonder if there is a law against this or if it’s some kind of building code violation. What authority governs having handicapped accessible escape routes from a private building?
I’m just guessing, but in my country you get towed for blocking escape routes. Maybe your local fire department can help you understand what is possible to do.
That’s some incredible stone work right there, how would you go about building it? Maybe one could make a wood arc to serve as a guidance for the shape of the ceiling when you’re carving it? I have no idea how to approach the carving and smoothing of a floor so flat with ancient tech 🙃
It’s because people usually search for that… one of the many reasons why I lost hope in the human race… people getting their kinks on other people getting beaten up or killed… I mean, it just goes to show you how worse we are even than animals.
Yeah, this thing works if everyone around you is not an asshole. It doesn’t if everyone is. And even if the copycat or copykitten win in the end, the number of retries is just too tiring, so you just give up and decided to not trust anyone, thus becoming the cheater, same as everyone else.
If it’s any consolation, it’s only conservatives who delight in the misery of the oppressed. It’s not the normal people among us. Unfortunately, there are a lot of conservatives on the planet at the moment. It will take a lot of work and some open, honest discussions about the dangers of conservatism to cure it.
Yeah, I know all that, but I’ve just given up at this point (look my comment above as to why). I’m just too old for this back and forth bullshit till the end of time. And I don’t think things are gonna change any time soon. Unless a global catastrophy plages mankind, nothing is gonna change… like an asteroid impact or something like that. People show their greatest virtues and unite only when faced with grave danger… it’s just how humans are, they don’t do shit about anything unless all of their friends, relatives, family are in immediate danger.
And even if we avoid this grave danger, things will soon get back to same old, same old. A large chunk of humanity (like over 95%) needs to be wiped out in order for people to take things seriously and shift their mindsets in an entirely different direction… and even then, there is no guarantee that that will last.
Speaking of fricken weird. I use one of the posts to make a template to use up some of the weird otters I had set aside. It’s lame if the format is all the same, but it’s quicker.
