Petter1 , to linux in Mm.. can someone help?

I’d boot on ArchISO, get all data I need to a external drive and install Arch from scratch, btw

t0mri OP ,

So what should i do.

  1. Boot into arch iso
  2. Mount my disk and copy files
  3. And install arch

But i wonder if the mounting part will work. Coz of the mess ive made. I just have to try it ig.

SturgiesYrFase ,
@SturgiesYrFase@lemmy.ml avatar

I believe in you. Just have the ArchWiki open. It’s really going to be your friend if you’ve not compiled Arch from scratch before.

Petter1 ,

I have shrunken a APFS partition (macOS) too much lately and was still able to mount it read only using Linux and back up all stuff I needed. But that depends on how corrupted this partition is now.

Maybe you need something like Gparted live ISO in order to get to your data. Check out the Command Line Utilities on that webpage, maybe there is the savior of your data

And about the arch installation, if you want easy mode, just type “archinstall” after ArchISO has booted and your PC is connected to the internet (phone connection via USB works to get internet connection)

melroy ,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

Try Void Linux.

Petter1 ,

Why should I?

merthyr1831 ,

it’s a great distro for installing Gentoo Linux btw

Petter1 ,

Oh, well I’m not quite interested in that right now, I have chosen Arch because I like the wiki and that you find so many packages in the AUR which are easy findable and installable using yay

melroy ,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

Understood. I'm also maintainer of several AUR packages.

Petter1 ,

🫡thank you for your service! I hope, one day I can do so myself as well

Thanks for this review. This book was brought up a lot in some of the literature I followed for a while. However, I never bothered to open it.

Maybe non native speaker. If you add “alone” in there it sounds fine.

_lunar , to unixporn in [Trinity] The K Desktop Environment

Trinity is criminally underrated. Compared to modern lightweight desktop environments (XFCE, MATE, LXQt, etc.), it’s far more feature-complete and in spite of that it manages to run lighter than any of them.

speaking of Konsole, can someone tell me how to theme this thing ? ( translucent effect, colors & especially fonts )

AMDIsOurLord ,

You need to edit your profile, and for transparency and colors you need to make a color scheme or edit an existing one

    It only accepts monospaced fonts, which is simply the only font type you should ever even think of having in your terminal

    But there is a checkmark that enables you to override and use any font

    UnfortunateShort ,

    You should give www.nerdfonts.com a look. There is a patched version of Fira Code and it’s pretty damn fancy, although there are plenty alternatives and instructions for creating your own if you fell like it.

    I think for transparency in Plasma you use “Window Rules”, a tab in which you can specify a lot of stuff, like opacity, and you can confine your settings to certain programs, certain categories of programs, all programs, etc. There’s really a huge customisation potential with Plasma!

    K0W4LSK1 ,

    unhinge , to linuxmemes in Who needs FHS, anyways?

    I wouldn’t be so sure it doesn’t affect NixOS^[1].

    I am not a security researcher, nor a reverse engineer. There’s lots of stuff I have not analyzed and most of what I observed is purely from observation rather than exhaustively analyzing the backdoor code.

    Also, it may take 10 days to downgrade the package^[2].

    fl42v OP ,

    Yea, but the move to verify the path seemed somewhat funny at the time. As for the second part - it’s a shame, but expected: they need to re-compile like everything. So, I just decided to wait since all my machines are ssh-ible from VPN only

    Alcatorda , to lemmyshitpost in Me trying to insert a flash drive at night

    One time I went to plug in my headphone and I accidentally plugged it into the USB port next to the jack… My laptop died and had to have parts replaced. Guy at the shop told me I shouldn’t have done that 🙄. I just said they shouldn’t have designed those ports to be right next to each other if the product breaks when you hit the wrong one.

    Anyway, be careful about plugging shit into the wrong port.

    bitchkat ,

    What connector did your headphones have? I’m trying to imagine you plugging an RCA jack into ethernet port.

    Alcatorda ,

    TIL a jack is the thingy you plug in, I thought it was the thingy you plug into.

    Um, just a normal earphones jack, I think that’s 3,5mm? Not RCA and I don’t have ethernet ports either 😄

    bitchkat ,

    Yeah, I meant 3.5 mm but I get lazy these days and call them all RCA jacks to mean “those perfectly fine audio jacks that have been replaced with usb and/or bluetooth”. As an unabashed pedant, I will try to do better.

    BTW, it would appear that you are correct about which end is the jack: www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia/term/audio-jackSo it was TIL that the jack is the hole you plug in to.

    TIL about Trinity. Honestly looks pretty cool and cosy, although maybe that’s just the nostalgia talking. It’s always nice to see projects to maintain more retro visuals while running modern software on modern hardware.
