Of Note, Microsoft has a block on a lot of people moving to 11 without buying new computers. This will solidify their position as a corporate provider over personal devices and give more fuel to either Apple or Open Source.

We need to start c/MNN (or the “Meme News Network”)… complete with intros, outros and lower third templates.

Along with basically every Asian and middle eastern country, several European and African countries, and a few South American countries. There are a lot of ethnostates in the world.

In fact, I’d say most countries outside of the EU/the anglosphere are a lot closer to being ethnostates than they are to being any sort of cosmopolitan melting pot.

But most of them have been that way for a long time so people just accept it.

Microw ,

Yeah there are a lot of ethnocracies. Turkey being one of the most obvious examples. Even within the EU you have countries like Latvia or Estonia who have been labelled that in the past.

trashgirlfriend ,

An ethnostate isn’t just a country with a majority ethnic group.

It has to explicitly give legal preference to one group over another.

jaspersgroove ,

I’m well aware, and stand by my original comment.

Thief_of_Crows ,

Very few countries, if any, give legal preferance to one ethnicity except for israel. China is almsot entirely chinese people, but if a white person moves there they are not discriminated against by the government.

PHP is actually quite footgun free these days.

IIRC it’s only for the DIP version, others variant still exists, and there’s a lot of chinese clones anyway

Personally, I’m just saying, I think that every student in a school should have a gun to protect themselves from other students with guns

@TragicNotCute@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe we could do like a take-a-gun/leave-a-gun kinda thing at the front door to schools to help those who can’t afford one. After the metal detectors of course.

HottieAutie ,

guns are too soft. they need automatic assault rifles.

Denvil ,

Gun is gun, everybody gets to choose their own flavor (although those who choose small guns will be bullied by those with larger guns, thats just the natural order)

Children should be given guns and sent individually in the same forest on a moonless night. Let them figure out for themselves which course of action maximizes the likelihood of a good outcome and minimizes that of a bad one for them when they hear another kid between hiding, calling out and shooting.

I sorta did this at my old factory job by setting up all the machines to run damn near perfectly then I peaced out before showing anyone how to actually run the set-ups.

yogthos OP ,
@yogthos@lemmy.ml avatar

I managed to do this on my very first job. I worked at a company where they needed to integrate data from multiple vendors into a unified schema. So, ended up building a library that could take xpath and a value and would navigate down the the path, creating missing entries along the way, then insert the value at the given location. It worked really nicely cause it let our business people just fill out a spreadsheet, and provide a csv that would get ingested. The internals of it were absolutely nightmarish though, cause I just kept kludging stuff in to accommodate for new use cases, and of course all of it was completely undocumented. After I left, I heard that at least three separate attempts were made at rewriting that nightmare, and everyone just gave up eventually. For all I know, it’s still in production to this day because it became a foundational piece that nobody has any hope of understanding. 😂
