xebix , to selfhosted in Hot RAID swapping?

First thing, back up your data in case something goes south.

With that out of the way, I have done this exact thing many times with both zfs and an array managed by mdadm. Depending on the filesystem on top of your raid array, there may be some additional commands you’ll need to run to extend your partition to use all of the available space in your larger array. You do have to wait between each disk swap to wait for the array to rebuild so it might be quicker to just make a backup, remove the old drives, and build a new array with your new drives and then copy the data back over. That being said, it is fun to hot swap all of those disks and not lose any data or have downtime assuming everything goes smoothly.

inspector , to android in Discussion: What Android devices are you using?

Currently rocking a Samsung Galaxy A53 5G. Bought this to replace my old shattered Xiaomi Redmi Note 8.

I’ve been using Android phones since a long time. Started out with a Galaxy Y, loved those small phones with TouchWiz 3!

My most favorite phones I’ve owned over the years have to be my most beloved Xiaomi Mi A1 (probably the best clean stock Android experience I’ve had), the Pixel 3a, Sony Xperia M, and the Moto G2 2014 (again, with the cleanest Marshmallow experience).

My A53 is good, mainly got it because I’ve kind of gotten old tired of experimenting with new ROMs lol. I don’t plan on upgrading for 4 more years…this phone does everything I need it to, and it’s decent enough to last it’s promised update life cycle.

Dio , to gaming in In which game did you spend the most hours?
@Dio@lemmy.world avatar

DISSIDIA NT on the PS4, at around the 920 hour mark. Guess it’s sound to say that I was dedicated to mastering a couple of favourite characters for ultimately no reason. No one plays online and there were absolutely zero tournaments. SquareEnix eventually stopped supporting it.

Lol.

conciselyverbose , to gaming in In which game did you spend the most hours?

Steam seems to think I've played chasm for 444 hours, but it must have been left on lol. Steam has me at 150-ish on Hitman 2, one of the nba 2ks, Witcher 3, and Elden ring.

Not Steam, original destiny was like 800.

LordOfLocksley , to nostupidquestions in Do you use the swipe to type feature on your phone?

I use it all the time, but I’ve recently got a new phone and it’s taking a while for the autocorrect to get used to my swiping, so it has a fair few mistakes currently

fugepe , to linux in Thoughts on Windows and WSL?

WSL is not Linux. Has none of the advatanges of Linux. Fuck windows

dr_robot ,
@dr_robot@kbin.social avatar

Well, that's just not true. WSL indeed is not Linux, but it does have several of the advantages of Linux.

It is not good if you want a home desktop solution, because that's not what it's there for. However, if you need to use Windows for something, e.g., at work to have full outlook MS office compatibility (access through the web is not great) but need Linux for dev work then WSL is great.

In short, I'd say WSL is there if you want to do dev work on Linux, but everything else on Windows.

As a series, most certainly Pokémon. Young me played the Silver version countless times back in the day. I still do the odd ROM hack now and then.

As a single game, Skyrim.

Seigest , to gaming in In which game did you spend the most hours?
@Seigest@lemmy.ca avatar

I like games I can just pause and walk away from for a bit. Or just play while watching videos. So the hour counts are never really accurate. But I can safely assume in the past few years its Rimworld. It’s my game I can play while doing other stuff. But if I crank up the speed it’s engaging enough to focus on if I want to.

Lifetime totals it may be Minecraft though, I usually go back to it every few years. The urge comes and goes.

LordOfLocksley , to asklemmy in What is something that sounds 100% false but is actually 100% true?

A day on Venus is longer than a year on Venus.

If you start to think about how these lengths of time are defined it becomes clearer.

1 day = time to rotate on it’s axis once 1 year = time to complete a full rotation around the sun

For Earth, it takes us ~24hrs to rotate on our axis and 365.25 days to orbit the sun.

However, because Venus’ axial rotation is so slow (and another interesting fact, it rotates in the opposite direction to other planets) it actually completes a full orbit of the sun before 1 axial rotation.

Hence, a year is shorter than a day

For those interested:

1 Venus day = 243 earth days 1 Venus year = 225 earth days

If MMOs count, EVE Online at well over 12,000 hours over the last 20 years.

If not, nethack has probably consumed close to 1000 hours of my life.

vsis , to selfhosted in Hot RAID swapping?
@vsis@feddit.cl avatar

Do you really need the RAID online all the time? Because if you can afford to shut it down for a few hours, it is way less work to do a backup, and then build a new RAID with your SSDs.

I’m not sure if the RAID controller will like two different kind of drives. I’d check the docs if it says something.

Anonymouse OP ,

I don’t really need it online all the time, but I don’t expect that I’ll find time to do it all at once and I thought swapping may be a way to break up the job into interruptible segments.
