This page lists communities from other lemmy/kbin servers that federates with the server you use. (server list available in lemmy.world/instances)
If you know other community’s url from other server (e.g. lemmy.ml/c/asklemmy), copy and paste that to search function and you can browse that community without registering an account on other lemmy/kbin server.
Currently beehaw.org has de-federated with lemmy.world, that means if you paste a community from beehaw.org, the search function might (1) find the community but you won’t see new posts and your posts and comments won’t show up on beehaw server (2) doesn’t find that community.
Thinking long-term, it does make sense to have the main piracy sub on a separate instance, and grow it here instead of lemmy.ml, as the fediverse grows people might not be so accepting of easy access to piracy information on one of the “main” instances.
This isn’t related, but I wanted to reward your comment and I realized that I haven’t even seen rewards yet. Spending money and rewarding content seems even more important now.
Absolutely no obligations today other than to avoid getting dressed, eat snacks, and lounge around on the couch doing whatever tf I want. Which is mostly gonna be game dev and crochet, I think. Maybe a bit of sewing if I can be arsed to get off said couch and go upstairs, but that seems unlikely.
No rain due here til tomorrow night but it is at least much cooler today so I’ll take it!
I, too, am using the Motorola One 5G, and really aside from updates, I have no complaints, except the phone trips out once in a while or has weird screen glitches on occasion. Great phone though. Hoping to upgrade to one of the Edge series soon.
You shoulda just secretly did a few orders everyday and then took 3 hours off. If they don’t appreciate productivity, take it as a sign that you should slow down and chill.
had a knowledge sharing meeting at work recently on container security. the guy was using podman like a docker cli, but it said "this is only an emulation of docker" - is there any downsides to running podman like this? im very familiar with docker on the command line
I think calling it an emulation downplays podman. Docker and podman are both container runtimes. Docker came first and is known synonymously with containers, whereas podman is newer and attempts to fix docker’s problems.
One outcome of this is podman chose to match docker’s cli very closely so nobody needs to learn a new cli. You can even put podman on the docker socket so “docker [command]” runs with podman.
Ooh what kind of crafts? Our library used to have a knit and natter, but it only happened at like 10am on a Wednesday so effectively banned working-age folks. And now even that is gone. Bah.
Honestly I made one friend through Ravelry years ago, and that seems to be about it around here in terms of crafters who are under retirement age. Such is life in small towns! I think there is a lot more stuff for young kids on a weekend though, basically the demographic here is “parents” and “old people” and if you’re neither you’re out of luck!
At least there’s online though. I’m loving seeing all the new crafty communities popping up on here, just hope they can get enough content to keep going 🤞
For sewing there seem to be two trying to get off the ground but neither seem super active. I’ll probably just pick one at random and start posting in it if that doesn’t change but they’re !sewing (direct link) and !sewing (direct link)
!leathercraft (direct link) isn’t something I do personally but I do enjoy perving over their projects anyway.
Erm…if I find any more I’ll come back and update this lol. Kind of one a one-woman mission to build a good list, then hopefully convince the various mods to sticky it so people who find one of these places can then find all the others too.
(Also p.s. I don’t know how to format these links for Kbin so sorry if they don’t work. But hopefully I’ve made it a bit easier for any other Lemmings who stumble across this comment.)
Oh my god, thank you for such a comprehensive list! I will be checking out each and every one of them a little later on.
I feel like everyone really t needs to pull together and try and build all these communities to get this whole place rolling. Thriving more niche communities are vital to that.
Yep absolutely! I can’t commit to running one myself but can at least do my part by being a patient explorer (and insufferable shill) of new communities lol.
I think you should post your group collection to the front page in someway. We absolutely need to be pushing crafts and creative groups to the forefront. Thank you again!
Currently out walking the dog in the fields. The sun’s come out, the petrichor is in full swing, it’s a lovely morning. We’ve seen a green woodpecker. Edit: dog rolled in fox poo. Boo
Off to a party to see some old friends later. Yay.
Communities with the same name across different instances are not merged, and the way they are referenced will be different. So, the location of lemmy.world/c/Music can also be referenced as !music while instead the Music at serverB.whatever be can be referenced as [email protected] .
Been testing Kbin and Tildes, and I like the way Tildes does it. There are upvotes, no downvotes. Instead, there are also labels that can be applied like joke and off-topic. There's even an analogue of gilding via an exemplary label which has an 8-hour cool down and requires typing a brief reason.
Tildes wants to encourage longer, thoughtful discussion so jokes get pushed to the bottom by default. Currently no option to custom sort that I could see if, for example, you want to read funny comments instead—and that's fine.
Point is, a better system than upvotes/downvotes would be nice as a general feature for aggregators going forward.
I‘m glad to have you too, the Reddit behaviour was making me nauseous and I was worried I couldn‘t find a good community to replace it. Then I discovered this instance and explored Lemmy a bit further, made some more accounts elsewhere and jumped around and it’s NICE! So excited to be here.
If you find juggling multiple accounts to be a bit of a hassle, my recent chapter about subscriptions might be of interest. In short though: you can use one account to access all of Lemmy, but there’s a few specific steps you need to follow to subscribe to other communities on external servers.
