Didros , to gaming in What type of game do you want to play that doesn't really exist?

Welp, I tried to find the video for like an hour with no luck. But I think it was made by the Rocket Jump guys at some point. It was a live action video of a video game like fps where there are two teams. One person spawns on each team and goes on to the map, trade gun fire until one dies then time resets and another person spawns on each side, BUT the other player still does what they did last round, runs out and trades gun fire. But the newly spawned guy kills the enemy that shot tge first spawn guy before that happens. Breaking the first spawn guy out of his preset loop, and they are now coordinating.

Very cool concept. If anyone knows the video please help me find it. Told a friend about it yesterday. Must have been filmed at least 8 years ago now.

nebirus ,

I have sad news for you, my friend. A very good game exactly like this existed, until it shut down just a few weeks ago.

Lemnis Gate: store.steampowered.com/app/950180/Lemnis_Gate/

Didros ,

I have a real knack for finding amazing games that will die soon or just died. I’ll add this to the pile of hellgate London, runescape chronicles, and that 3v3 moba that you could play on any web browser.

Thanks for the link though!

I think that might be a Corridor video?

Didros ,

You were correct! Thank you so much!

If anyone is interested: youtu.be/CBawCe6du3w

julianh ,

There’s a singleplayer game with a similar concept, Time Rifters

Didros ,

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing!

eh , to nostupidquestions in Are there any lemmy instances that work as a single "subreddit"?

alongside the others mentioned here, lemdro.id exists for Android-related stuff and lemmyrs.org exists for Rust stuff (but seems to be running an old version of Lemmy, so YMMV)

Stillhart , to gaming in [PC] Action RPG with multiplayer crossplay

Oh, obviously Wild Hearts if you haven’t tried that yet. I don’t know if it has crossplay but it’s a newer MH clone with some interesting new mechanics. I found it to be just okay but it might scratch the itch for you.

I'm still using public instances for now. I started w/ Piped but the buffer speed was lacking for most of the instances I used. Switched to Invidious and the buffer speed as amazing, albeit a lot more error messages that Google is blocking an instance temporariliy

A plain postgres database with one of the many database management/airtable-like user interfaces on top?

johnnixon ,

The rabbit hole took me from Airtable to Baserow (which I have up and running but with the built in DB) but now need to make a viewer for the people. So the next step is visualizing the events list and filtering by day and whatever is needed to get useful info from the DB.

middlemuddle , to gaming in What type of game do you want to play that doesn't really exist?

have a sims game that simulates more than just sims needs, but whole economies

Isn’t that SimCity?

hzkvskd OP ,

Yes similar, but not entirely. SimCity is more macro-economics, I was thinking more about micro-economics, like the demand and supply within the city, similar to Factorio where one factory needs resources from another to work, but in this case prices would fluctuate depending on the supply and demand of certain resources within the city, then you could use these differences to make money for your sims, or create a business to fill an unsaturated market, for example producing sweaters in the winter to fill the clothing demand while having to repay a loan you took to begin the business without going bankrupt. This has always been what I wished I could do in the sims, Sims 3 came close with shop ownership, but it didn’t really simulate the accompanying economies.

Rehike. It’s meant to be a re implementation of the older hitchhiker youtube layout that youtube had back between around 2015-2020. It doesn’t do anything for privacy but that’s not the point of it so I don’t mind. I’ve tried things like newpipe and invidious but youtube is around 90 percent of my media consumption so having my history, likes, playlists, and recommendations synced between all my devices is too much for me to give up.

Parallax , to nostupidquestions in Why does powdered shallots stick at the bottom of the vial?

Do you ever season directly into a hot pan or boiling water? The steam gets into the container and causes clumping.

Solution: season into your hand first, then add to the dish.

blackstrat , to selfhosted in Are you exposing any ports on your home server?
@blackstrat@lemmy.fwgx.uk avatar

I run a few services that require ports to be open. Everything that can go behind a reverse proxy does so. But there’s some that can’t and that’s OK.

Im1Random , (edited ) to selfhosted in Anyone else run so many services locally that sometimes you don't immediately notice your internet is out?

No cause a few seconds after the internet goes out I’m getting spammed with emails from Uptime Kuma that my public websites went down. But I would only experience minor complications with my smart home and entertainment setup and could probably watch movies for around 2 or 3 weeks.

gerbilOFdoom , to piracy in How do I strip "Giant River Company" encryption from purchased movie?

The DFXP file should just be subtitles

The MPD file is most likely the one to work from - I suspect it is set up to reference the local audio and video files. Try opening it in VLC and see if it plays. If so, something like Handbrake should be able to transcode it all to your preferred format.

@qazwsxedcrfv000@lemmy.unknownsys.com avatar

If reencoding is to be avoided, one can try ffmpeg -i xxx.mpd -c:v copy -c:a copy out.mp4

Terramaris OP ,

I was looking into FFMPEG just a minute ago. I believe it can strip the encryption, but I will need to grab the WV encryption keys beforehand.

The files are supposed to be played with the GRC app, correct? If so I think you need to intercept the (usually HTTPS) request(s) for the key made by the GRC Windows 11 app.

Btw can the said movie be played in a browser via say the GRC site? It may be an easier target.

Terramaris OP ,

Btw can the said movie be played in a browser via say the GRC site? It may be an easier target.

Yes, the movie can be played via browser on the GRC website. I think you gave me an idea, and I want to run it by you to see your thoughts on it. Now I have the hardware to do a WebRip from GRC’s website, but avoided that for this movie since I wanted to have the higher bitrate of a WebDL. You got me thinking though, what if I do a “webrip” but done from the GRC app? Since bandwith isn’t a factor (I believe) because the 7gb movie is right on my computer, would I not get WebDL quality?

unrightful OP ,
@unrightful@lemmy.world avatar

you’re 100% right, i just got a new ssd today to dualboot for starters :)

lal309 ,

This is the answer. Dual boot for awhile and experiment a bit. Sometimes games work out of the box, other times it needs a bit of tinkering which most of the time someone else has already identified what you need to do to fix your issue.

Things like Lutris, Steam, Wine and ProtonDB are in all invaluable to gaming on Linux.

unrightful OP ,
@unrightful@lemmy.world avatar

noted. going to install nobara later today and tinker around and see how it goes

scutiger ,

Keep your games on an NTFS disk or partition, and both OSes can access it.
