tvcvt , to linux in Linux on iMac?

Linux runs fine on Intel Macs. There are a couple peculiarities you’ll want to be aware of, though.

  • Ventoy doesn’t work as an installer. The boot menu will come up, but any ISO you choose will hang
  • Not all distros will recognize the wireless card and install the firmware (Be prepared to install it using a USB to Ethernet adapter)
  • Same goes for the iSight web cam

Other than those initial hiccups, everything works pretty flawlessly.

Essence_of_Meh , to patientgamers in [Katawa Shoujo] A dating sim about handicapped girls... by 4chan? And it's good????

Katawa Shoujo is great!

I played it years ago and decided to replay it again a few months back. My initial playthrough was limited to Hanako’s route (got a bad ending which I’m kind of baffled by after the replay) so this time I wanted to try out the other ones as well. Rin’s story ended up being a surprise highlight of the whole process in a way I wasn’t really prepared for (had some very familiar thoughts showing up there). Her whole story just clicked with me and wouldn’t let go until some time after finishing it.

All the other routes were great as well (haven’t touched Shizune/Misha one) and I’m glad I decided to give it another shot for an expanded experience. It was worth it and made me wish for more games with disabled protagonist/characters (without using it as their main characteristic obviously).

Wrufieotnak OP ,

In my opinion that is the strength of Katawa Shoujo: You go into it expecting a light hearted RomCom from the visuals and the “made by 4chan”, but rather get a deeper view into the psyche of 5 teenagers, which helps you better understand yourself or others.

Shizune’s route was my least favorite one, but only because the way you have to act to be liked by Shizune is the exact opposite of my own character and that’s not the writers fault

Blackdoomax , to android in What Browser do you use on Android, and why?

Soul browser because it’s the most complete and most customizable. Just a little bug currently made me switch to firefox, but as soon as it gets patched I’ll go back.

the16bitgamer , to android in What Browser do you use on Android, and why?
@the16bitgamer@programming.dev avatar

Depends on usage. If I have 2 hands available Firefox, u lock Origin is a must on a modern web. But if I need one hand free for… let’s say holding an umbrella, then cromite, based on the chrome fork based off of bromite. As much as I don’t like chrome, on Android it’s the only browser that has gestures, which makes one handed usage perfect. Cromite, just has adblockers built int and lacks many of the tracking stuff too.

tetris11 , (edited ) to linux in Is there an app that can program audio configuration?
@tetris11@lemmy.ml avatar

Pulseaudio should have hooks

<span style="color:#323232;"># cat /etc/pulse/default.pa
</span><span style="color:#323232;">load-module module-switch-on-connect
</span><span style="color:#323232;">load-module module-exec
</span><span style="color:#323232;">load-module module-exec arguments="path/to/your/script.sh %s"
</span>

(where %s resolves on trigger to the name of the sink added)

Your script.sh should then match the first argument to the name of the sink you want to control, and then run

<span style="color:#323232;"># path/to/your/script.sh
</span><span style="color:#323232;">if [ "$1" = "THESINKIWANT" ]; then
</span><span style="color:#323232;">  pactl set-sink-volume $1 40%
</span><span style="color:#323232;">fi
</span>
lemmyng , to nostupidquestions in Are there any negatives side effects to using PGP all the time with email?
@lemmyng@lemmy.ca avatar

I don’t know if it’s still the case, but in my experience (years ago) PGP messed with the proper rendering of HTTP email bodies.

From a security standpoint also, the signature confirming that the email is from your is a double edged sword: Yes, your contacts get to verify that it’s you, but you’re also losing plausible deniability (privacy).

FourPacketsOfPeanuts , to askscience in Are there any individual cells that make decisions, or do they all react to their immediate environments according to chemical and mechanical laws?

A “decision” is highly complex emergent behaviour. Looking for it in a single neuron is like asking if there’s a single air molecule where a gale started. We almost certainly will never identify single neurons corresponding to single mental ideas. A “go to the cinema” neuron versus “go to the park” likely don’t exist. What is more likely is that large ‘flows’ of neutral activity correspond to these things or to what we call ‘decisions’. However when we think of more and more specific mechanical things (like lifting a finger) then it’s more likely this corresponds to very small areas of neurons that controlled their activation and it makes a bit more sense to talk about that being a switch to ‘decide’ to move a finger. But the decision itself is actually the vast cloud of neutral activity leading into it not a single thing.
