potentiallynotfelix , to asklemmy in My wife has an iPhone. I have a Samsung S23. Why do videos she texts me look like super low res shit?? Can iPhones not text videos?

Apple doesn’t do RCS. This should be changing soon, but for now you should be using another messaging app, because everything you send is unencrypted and shittier quality

UnaSolaEstrellaLibre ,

It also depends on the carrier. Girlfriend has iOS 18 Beta and RCS option is missing.

realitista OP , to linux in I legitimately want to run Linux as my desktop OS, please tell me how to meet my requirements.

Fair points. But I need 3TB minimum on my desktop machine. I have 2 NAS’ with 6TB and 3TB RAID arrays. Yes I can get by with 8gb of ram but I keep a ton of stuff open. It’s slow. 16gb is probably the right amount but with upgradable ram 8 can get 64 for $200 which is well worth it to me. None of this is possible within my budget on new Macs, whereas on any normal hardware platform it’s pretty affordable. You might want to go back and look at Mac ram and ssd prices and compare them to market prices to see how out of hand they’ve become. It’s like a 10x multiple in some cases. The one area I don’t need to go big is on CPU as nothing I do is compute heavy, which is of course the one area where Apple doesn’t charge an absurd premium.

I suspect that the enjoyment of boobies is sort of subjective to each individual for both lesbians and straight men alike

Personally, I fucking love them

aramis87 , to nostupidquestions in if you ever traveled 1K miles by bus, would you recommend it?

You don't speak the local language; are you looking to learn, to try to connect with the locals? An extended bus trip can provide that. If you're just trying to get from one place to another, personally, I'd take the plane.

Edit: did cross-county USA twice by bus: NYC to SF, and a few years later LA to Philly. It was an interesting experience. I'm glad I did those trips, and I'll by happy to not ever have to do them again.

Decentralized networks seem to be getting stronger. The number of options you have is crazy. I’m hoping for the day that decentralized networks overcome centralized ones. It’ll probably still be a while (years at least, probably), but given time, I bet it’ll happen.

I also had an idea for a wifi network where a router talks to other routers in range to setup networks independent of the internet. The idea being that, if widely enough adopted, you could potentially cut out ISPs except in situations where the signal needs to travel long distances (like rural areas). The router would have an antenna for long-range communication, and then a second antenna to actually talk to devices in a smaller range. Kinda like meshtastic, but significantly faster (with the trade-off being distance and penetration).

There are open source projects in the works for just such a thing, I forget the details at the moment but I heard about them from the Meshtastic Discord funny enough.

Look up the IEEE 802.11ah standard (or Wi-Fi HaLow) for example, it’s a standard that can achieve pretty good WiFi data rates for quite a distance (enough that a neighborhood mesh would work well), whilst running on low power, sub-GHz hardware (like the Meshtastic hardware).

www.quectel.com/blog/what-is-wi-fi-halow-iot/

There are mesh internet projects using this, I just don’t remember their names right now haha.

Sadly while it uses more or less the same frequency band as LoRa in the USA (around 900MHz), I’m not sure how useable it is here in Europe given the band licensing restrictions. I’d like to think they’ve thought of that! But I dunno? I’ve seen HaLow hardware that only used the US band, but maybe other companies price EU equivalent hardware.

ProdigalFrog ,

Regarding decentralized internet, your idea is being enacted! I posted a couple short docs about that over on !breadtube

Here’s the first one, I’ll go hunt down the second.

Edit: found it!

finley , to nostupidquestions in Do lesbians like boobs as much as straight guys?

Allow me to blow your mind: gay guys like boobs, too, just for different reasons.

Empricorn ,

Wat. I didn’t know that! I mean, I’m not offended by dicks, but I don’t love (or even really like) them…

Grimy ,

I think he’s referring to man boobs.

Empricorn ,

I don’t think that’s right…

Grimy ,

That’s the only thing that came to mind to be honest, I guess hopefully he will clarify.

finley ,

Oh, you see, that’s not the same thing. Most gay men are absolutely fucking terrified of vaginas, for example. A total mystery that, for most of us, we have only ever encountered in a biology class. (On the other hand, we probably know more about them from that biology class and our lady friends than most unmarried straight men). However, even as a straight guy, you could admit that dicks are fun to play with, even if it’s just your own. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Ya see, as best, as I can figure, the boob thing for gay guys is that, it’s a novelty because we don’t have them (usually), they’re actually kind of neat and fun, and if you push them together, they look like a butt, which is something we actually do like.

hddsx ,

Dicks are fun to play with? That’s news to me. For guys, I am attracted to muscles. For girls, I like things that bounce.

dharmacurious ,

I would not say most gay men are terrified of vaginas. I’m not sexually attracted to vagina, but I’m also not scared of it, anymore than I’m scared of wrists, another thing I’m not attracted to, or tattoos, another thing I don’t personally have. They’re just a thing that’s there, and that I’m not into. Same for most gay men I’ve met.

I don’t think you can use the x0 plus minus delta in the bracket (or anywhere), because then the function that’s 1 on the rationals and 0 on the irrationals is continuous, because no matter what positive number epsilon is, you can pick delta=7 and x0 plus minus delta is exactly as rational as x0 is so the distance to L is zero, so under epsilon.

You have to say that
whenever |x - 0x|<delta,
|f(x) - L|<epsilon.

But I think this is one of my favourite memes.

Angry_Autist , to nostupidquestions in Do lesbians like boobs as much as straight guys?

Even gay men like boobs, it’s kind f built in to us as a species.
