The original duration in the U.S. was 14 years, plus the option of a renewal for another 14. IMO we should move back to something close to that. One idea Iāve seen is that thereās an initial cost of however much for 7 years, and then the price doubles for every 7 year extension beyond that. Not even Disney can beat exponential growth, and it would force them to pick what they actually care about.
Iād also prefer explicit registration. Weāre losing too many works because nobodyās sure who owns the copyright, and nobody knows if itās safe to archive them.
Iād say that the original Star Wars trilogy should be public domain by now, for a concrete example. Disney can make new stories and characters in the universe and make money off of them, but everyone else should be able to as well.
Also as an aside, hereās Richard Stallman on why the term āintellectual propertyā shouldnāt be used. Itās an umbrella term that doesnāt really make sense, and more explicit terms like copyright or patents or trademark should be used.
It depends for me. The labels arenāt really useful if I donāt know the person. One kid I interacted with over a few months said enough in line with fascism that I call him that. Someone just telling me theyāre communist, anarchist, liberal isnāt enough to really get their actual beliefs, given how much overlap and misuse of the terms there is. I will generally vibe with a more left leaning person, of course, so if any of those labels are used Iām like, cool, weāll probably have good conversations. Even conservatives Iām opening up to. Republicans? My God. I blame my mental illnesses on that brain rot.

This is Goodie! š I think about him a lot. Heās a mischevious little biblically accurate angel baby, so heās still learning! In my world, angels start off small and simple, and then mature into larger, more complicated forms. Goodie enjoys nothing more than stealing gems and other precious items from the demons. In this drawing, heās found a magical stopwatch that can invert time, which is useful to the angels in reversing the wrongdoings of the demons. The mini seraphs tend to find him a little annoying, but appreciate just how passionate he is at such a young age.
Iām actually thinking about drawing a picture of him except itās what he looks like as an adult. Iām not sure about giving him eyes just yet though! But he definitely could do with some wings to make him look more angel-likeā¦
Iād be down for copyright extending 10-years past the creatorās death, 20 at most. This is plenty of time to resolve complex legal affairs, fighting relatives, etc.
Depends on the root cause. If the terrorism comes from a place of desperation for liberation or emancipation, addressing the underlying material conditions would prevent that kind of terrorism. A great example of that is Apartheid South Africa and Ireland. On the other hand, if the terrorism comes from a place of Fascism, like ISIS or the KKK, I think funding progressive and democratic opposition and also education would have the most positive effect. Holding the terrorists responsible for their actions and jailing them accordingly is really important, but to solve the underlying cause is critical to end it entirely. Otherwise, if the root cause isnāt addressed, there is no reason to believe the terrorism will stop.

ISIS openly admits that it wants to destabilize other countries and radicalize Muslims living abroad to convince them to commit acts of terror
ISIS wants to stir religious hatred in Europe and the United States ā so that Muslims no longer feel they belong in the West, and either carry out attacks in their homelands or leave to join the caliphate.
If they genuinely wanted to establish a caliphate they would first focus on gaining regional dominance, then either freeing Al quds, and occupying mecca.
Instead they fight Hamas, and try to get Muslims to commit acts of terror abroad
