Science fairs are cool. That was one of my favorite things I ever did in school. It was kind of my introduction to project management and using various microsoft office programs as well. Very engaging stuff. My actual project was kind of nonsensical in terms of science but I really enjoyed the overall experience of it.

zipzoopaboop , to linux_gaming in I did it finally, deleted win10 and installed Linux Mint

This is the exact path I’m taking in the near future, glad it went well. What gpu do you have? That’s my biggest concern at the moment with my 3070

Just a lot of experience.

@halm@leminal.space avatar

Post stuff others will want to boost and follow you for. Engage with others in a friendly and generous manner. Have fun, there is no algorithm to game.

The notion of being “discovered” and (implied) launching an influencer career is… probably a long shot on Mastodon, where people enjoy shitposts more than celebrities.

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

some_guy , to asklemmy in What would happen if everyone with credit card debt collectively stopped paying them?

Police enforcement. Like when the national guard was sent to break unions.

SocialMediaRefugee , to asklemmy in Have you ever smoked crack? What was it like?

I don’t know why people get into meth and crack in the first place. They’ve heard all the stories and likely know people messed up badly from it already. “Hmmm, this is the drug for me!”

I wonder if they somehow think they will be able to manage it.

belated_frog_pants ,

Everyone always does

SocialMediaRefugee , to linux in To Linux admins: What certifications/degrees do you guys have?

No certs and degree isn’t in CS. I just have lots of experience.

My pathway was basically:

  1. Got a low tier job as a glorified intern (paid)
  2. Switched jobs a few times, pay increasing each time. Chose interesting jobs.
  3. Left a low paying gov job for contract work. Got hired full time by one of my contractors.
  4. Have stayed at that job. Golden handcuffs.
tenchiken ,

“Choose interesting jobs”

THIS! A MILLION TIMES THIS!

The absolute best career choices I’ve made, in hindsight, were always from the interest in the work or quality of whom I was working with.

Took jobs for less pay, even turning down much higher offers, to choose the gig that was in the area I wanted to expand in.

Never accept just based on “it’s a few bucks more”. Unless it’s twice the pay AND you have something else to gain from the role, always grab the better experience or less stressful spot.

Yeah I usually alternate between a nonprofit doing sexy stuff and an evil corporation paying ridiculous high salaries every 1-3 years

It will take some time before the algorithm picks it up.

I know it’s a circumvention of the issue, and at times annoying, but you can add -site:reddit.com to the search to rule put a site, iirc

nogooduser , to mildlyinfuriating in Hate when the reddit links shows up first even tho its related to lemmy not reddit

I don’t see the problem with this search result. You searched for Lemmy clients and the first link gives a list of Lemmy clients for Android. It happens to be on Reddit but it does match your search.

The problem is why is reddit at the top it’s not lemmy which is lemmies competitor

NorthWestWind ,
@NorthWestWind@lemmy.world avatar

Because Lemmy hasn’t made it to the top yet. Be patient

Mwa OP ,
@Mwa@thelemmy.club avatar

it does match my search but its reddit and lemmy’s biggest competitor is reddit (the best i can describe it)

bionicjoey , (edited )

Google doesn’t have any reason to think you care about competition based on your query. You asked for a specific bit of information and it showed you websites with that information.
