It’s a spammer with a hard on against mbfc who has been posting shit “memes” across different instances. Best to block and ignore whenever you see an alt pop up

Gaming laptops (especially 17 inch devices) tend to have removable wireless networking cards.

People also need to keep seeding torrents. That’s how we can keep stuff alive

LazerDickMcCheese ,

Everybody should look into hardlinks and cross-seeding. By today’s standards, it’s painless and very unlikely to ever take up your bandwith

Still Rocket League. Can’t shake it for some quick challenges in ~10 minute increments. I really wish I could either switch over to some SCUMMVM retro stuff, or a semi-casual fantasy adventure, but in ~10 minute doses.

I’ve considered Witcher 3, but it looks too time-intensive for a busy dad. I’m hoping for something that might need a few hours to get started, but then you can pick up & make actual progress in under 15 minutes.

Anyone have recommendations?

muhyb ,

Maybe some CRPGs? Like Shadowrun Returns. Missions will be longer than 10 minutes but you can save it any time once it’s your turn.

eezeebee ,
@eezeebee@lemmy.ca avatar

I would actually say Witcher 3 is good for that. There’s like 100 smaller quests you can do in 5-10 minutes each. Some of the main storyline quests (which are marked as such) might take 20 or 30 minutes when you’re ready for them. It also has imo one of the best quest tracking systems I’ve seen, as well as best inventory system (sorting, yay) so you don’t have to remember everything after time away from playing.

Dark Souls games can also be played that way - from one bonfire (checkpoint) to the next is usually around 5 to 10 minutes depending on how you play.

It was my college experience. Didn’t use anything else. No issues at all

AusatKeyboardPremi , to asklemmy in What are your favorite open-source games?

I am surprised that 0 A.D. is not mentioned.

Although initially unplayable, the game was fun in the mid-to-late 2000s.

I haven’t checked it out in a while, but it holds high nostalgic value for me.

Taalnazi ,

Great game, can recommend!

This goes for any content not just piracy sites. Just the other day I seen someone I watch delete half of their videos but luckily I had downloaded everything.

There’s a bunch of stuff from Youtube alone I can’t see again because I didn’t download it when I had the chance…

I used linux all through the years I should have been in college, but was instead a hopeless drug addict. I regret nothing!!!

AdamBomb , to patientgamers in I know this is PatientGamers, but can we discuss how even the current generation of consoles seems to ask for patience as they aren't that many games 4 years after their release?

I was so excited about the potential of the PS5 hardware, yet here we are and I’ve only really bought 2 games really made for it: Returnal and Stellar Blade. In the same timeframe I’ve also bought and played at least a dozen bangers on my Steam Deck, some of those being new releases like Hi-Fi Rush that the Deck could play flawlessly. AAA is an albatross.

nickiam2 , to linux in How was your experience using Linux in college?

I had a cis major and I didn’t have issues using Linux all that often. One class we had to write code in VisualStudio, before the Linux version existed. My professor was fine with me using my own IDE as long as the code compiled on Windows, which it did after adding about 3 lines of code to the start.

If we had shared documents they went in Google docs, and libre office, (open office at the time) docs were exported as PDF before submitting. I also had a Windows 10 VM ready to go just in case, but rarely used it.

You can try installing audiobookshelf as an audiobook server. You can do lookups from audible there and automatically set chapters.

+1 for Audiobookshelf, couldn’t be happier, Android app and website on mobile both work great.

OhNoMoreLemmy , (edited ) to linux in How was your experience using Linux in college?

Honestly, if you’re sharing office files you’re probably using office 365. This means everything is a web app first and therefore Linux compatible.

I tried using the desktop version of word on a Mac last week, and the latency was so bad on a shared document that I had to switch to the web app anyway.

Basically, if you just want to use Linux you’ll be fine. If instead you don’t want to use Microsoft, you’ll probably have lots of problems.

Microsoft have been brutally effective in getting their tentacles into academic institutes, and you’ll find that everything from email to logging into internal sites relies on an office 365 account.
