Royal Canin has some treats too. Our guy is diabetic and does the ultimino food and ultimino treats, I think there are renal support versions as well.

Dotdev , to linux in How was your experience using Linux in college?
@Dotdev@programming.dev avatar

In college right now 2yr computer science, anything Microsoft is a pain to work offline. I miss the onedrive sync in windows i just use syncthing for that now .

I use onlyoffice since it has one of the best Microsoft office compatibility though I submit my obsidian export as a pdf for my assignments or records.

If you really need ms office or for group projects and you have an o365 account, just use the web version for it.

bobs_monkey , to linux in How was your experience using Linux in college?

For what is worth, I’ve had better luck on MSOffice integration with onlyoffice, but ymmv

clark OP ,
@clark@midwest.social avatar

I’ve actually not researched that much about OnlyOffice but I’ll definitely be sure to do that.

eco_game ,

+1 on OnlyOffice, it has 1:1 formatting compatibility with Microsoft Office. Unlike LibreOffice, it doesn’t have to translate documents between odt and docx in the background.

In the same vein, OnlyOffice has poor compatibility with odt files etc.

bobs_monkey ,

I’ve definitely notice weirdness with odt files, but truth be told I damn never run into those, everything is xlsx, docx, etc as I’m interfacing with companies that are firmly MS, but they’re also none the wiser usually. Every now and again there’ll be a formatting issue, especially with Excel, but it isn’t too common thankfully.

bloodfart , to linux in How to move from Windows to Linux?
    1. Make a backup. Use the windows backup utility for this, it’s real good. After that, look at what it backed up and make sure it didn’t miss anything.
    1. Plan out what you wanna do. There’s a lot of posts in reply to this thread that suggest different ways of doing things. If you plan what you want and investigate how to do it you will fail less.

What do you wanna do?

Yes, this is “how it was supposed to be used for”.

The sentence construction quality these days in in freefall.

supersquirrel ,

shrugs you know people have been confidently making these kinds of statements… since written language was invented? I bet the first person who developed written language did it to complain about how this generation of kids don’t know how to write a proper sentence.

What is in freefall is the economy for the middle and working class and basic idea that artists and writers should be compensated, period. What has released us into freefall is that making art and crafting words are shit on by society as not a respectable job worth being paid a living wage for.

There are a terrifying amount of good writers out there, more than there have ever been, both in total number AND per capita.

wheeldawg ,

This isn’t a creative writing project. This isn’t an artist presenting their work. What in the world did that tangent even come from?

This is just plain speech, written objectively incorrectly.

But go on, I’m sure next I’ll be accused of all the problems of the writing industry or something.

cm0002 , to mildlyinfuriating in UPS has started charging for pickups even if you have a prepaid label

UPS/FedEx has sucked for a while now, rarely are they cheaper than USPS. I only use them when I need something overnighted or something

USPS OTOH, I found out the other day, will take packages from your mailbox with the flag up and not just letters like I thought lol

otherbarry ,

UPS/FedEx has sucked for a while now, rarely are they cheaper than USPS

Well yeah, USPS should be cheaper. They tend to get bailout money from the U.S. government due to operating at a loss e.g. reuters.com/…/us-senate-approves-50-billion-posta… , UPS/FedEx on the other hand just raise their rates / change services to keep their shareholders happy.

In theory if the USPS was allowed to increase rates as much as any private company then they would be as expensive, if not more, vs UPS/FedEx.

SoJB ,
  1. The USPS is objectively profitable
  2. The reason they posted a loss is because a 2006 bill mandates the USPS to fully fund all employee pensions 75 years in advance. There are full retirement accounts sitting around for employees that aren’t even born yet.
  3. Even then, reliable postal service to all addresses in the country is a basic expectation of the government of the most powerful and wealthy nation in the history of human civilization.

The fact that you start with the premise that the USPS should somehow make profit off being a public service is a self report that you are here in bad faith.

Why are you spreading right wing propaganda?

brainandforce ,
@brainandforce@kbin.run avatar

Not intended to defend the above commenter, but it's worth noting that the Postal Service is no longer bound to the pre-funding requirement (thanks Dark Brandon!)

USPS is a public service it does not nor should run at a profit

“USPS running at a loss” is a right wing talking point. If you were unaware, you’re aware now. If you were aware and intentionally spreading right wing crap, kindly fuck off.

@Trubble@startrek.website avatar

Ours is 19, has gone blind and deaf (at least mostly, we think she still sees bright light and deep dark shadow contrast) but, she still has one hell of a sniffer on her.

We get some feline lysine in a tube to add a little to our girls food in the evening. Our vet said the lysine and taurine are good for her, may want to verify for your situation. We keep some Temptations Purrree tubes around for an in-between meal hearty snack.Then we found a Bonkers hard treat with taurine too.

And of course catnip, cat grass, and little bits of un-seasoned protein treats when we are cooking (bit of chicken, tiny piece of steak). We’ll actually cut a lil pice off and set it aside before we season, then give it to her cooled as we go to eat. High protein is no longer good for her, but she gets so happy for her little nibbles we can’t help it, and it isn’t very often.

I’ll need to check out the Forza, maybe replace some of her temptation snacking with a little of that. She doesn’t eat a whole lot at once, and due to a dog and greedy little brothers, can’t really have food left to reach easy thus the regular snacking.

bloodfart , to linux in Buying a new computer to run Linux on - suggestions?

Get an Apple, thinkpad or dell.

The main thing that determines if a computer can be repaired is parts availability. Those three have great parts availability almost universally.

If you wanna run macOS you need a Mac. The t480 is a good recommendation for thinkpads, but don’t worry about ssds or ram yet, just get the one with the processor and display you want (it’s the midrange 8th gen ones). I don’t know the dell world enough to make a recommendation but someone will do so.

Use the gentoo and arch wikis to check what problems people have out of the box with whatever model you’re looking at.

People will say you need amd. This is either paranoid or based on recent events. Neither apply to you.

People will say to get a framework or some equivalent. They’re expensive and a moral/ethical statement. This doesn’t apply to you.

Trainguyrom , to linux in Buying a new computer to run Linux on - suggestions?

If there’s a decent (even online) used market where you live buying a refurbished computer that’s just a few years old can be amazing bang for your buck. 9th-11th gen Intel or Ryzen 2-4th gen. Any of the more business focused lines tend to be fairly well-built and are designed to be relatively long lasting while being relatively well-maintained during their service life. HP Elitebooks, Dell Latitudes, Lenovo Thinkpads, etc.
