Mostly curious here, can you elaborate on the issues that are fixed with a reboot?

Is it related to poor performance or other aspects of the diaplay like VRR? Can you tell us which games this has happened with?

Trikami OP ,

Sure, I can give some pointers. DE is KDE Wayland and the version is whatever Endeavour gives. AMD 7900 GRE and 5800X, no configuration on drivers/proton. There have been weird “seeing through” application epilepsy things to games runnning extremely poorly until the system is restarted.

There are others like shaders/models glitching out where a restart is also necessary, though I can’t confirm if it has been the game or the system itself. Either way, sometimes just restarting the game or changing proton version has fixed them, but they re-appear with different ways to “fix” them in other games. That is, until apt/pacman upgrade which sometimes breaks the fix.

vikingtons ,
@vikingtons@lemmy.world avatar

Huh, that sounds nasty. Does the flickering stuff happen with specific games or just any game you play? If you haven’t switched back to windows already, do you think you could capture a small clip of this happening with an external device?

I have similar hardware to you. I haven’t seen anything like this with gnome + Wayland but I can try groupinstall KDE on fedora to see if I can hit this too.

Wolfram ,

If you’re running the most recent kernel, I’d recommend moving to linux-lts. I have slightly similar specs, KDE Wayland, 6900 xt and 5800, and I had issues with games straight up crashing out my PC on the latest kernel.

dino ,

That is, until apt/pacman upgrade which sometimes breaks the fix.

That sounds like changing the main config file instead of a conf.d/ sub config file. I have no clue what the correct naming for this is.

ccdfa ,

What do you mean by “apt/pacman”? Which one are you using?

I don’t at all understand churches advertising… Maybe because of my European ass? To my knowledge churches are not about profit? I get that you want to announce your service times and such, but put that in a small column in a newspaper for the ones interested or something lol

Mugly12 ,

I imagine it’s a form of evangelism. Like, if they can convince someone to attend church from the ad then that is the same as saving their soul and gets them points in God’s book (or so they tell people when in reality money is the goal).

GenderNeutralBro ,

In America, all things are about profit.

In Europe we are sadly switching to that attitude too.

More like someone in Europe realizing that they could import something from America and it’d catch on like an invasive plant species with no local ecological resistance.

QuantumSparkles ,

They want to convince you to come to their church so you can donate to their church which is totally not profit it is for the lord trust me it’s not sweet delicious tax-exempt profit mmmm

half ,

The church in the ad is particularly harmful. I had to fight to get out of it, and only after they took 10% of my income for years and trafficked me. They want money, power, and control, not increased numbers at their services.

marcos ,

and trafficked me

There’s a serious “wait, what?!?” here. The church sells slaves?

Timecircleline , to books in Looking up words on digital dictionary slows me down, does it get better?

I’m a native English speaker with a fairly robust vocabulary and I still look up words now and then. E-readers make it super easy, and since I get most of my books as e-books from the library it’s easy to learn new words. My recent word is “solicitude”.

My former best friend (and best man at my wedding) ended up trying to scam me for drug money a few months after my daughter was born and we were basically broke because of it. He ended up scamming my mom instead. Obviously, I broke it off and never spoke to him again, but something made me realize a few months ago that I could look up his record out of curiosity.

Not only was it a mile long, he is currently in prison for running a meth lab.

This was a guy who, when we met in middle school, wanted to compose classical music and even ended up going to music school for it before dropping out and beginning his long descent into drug abuse. I was doing the same drugs he was in college (or at least I was in the beginning), but he graduated to a pill addiction and then eventually, I guess, meth.

But at least he wasn’t a SovCit.
