A lot of the criticism I’ve seen thus far falls into two categories:
Users complaining that their favorite source is scored poorly
Users complaining that the ratings have various sources of statistical bias
The ones in the first group I think should take it as a wakeup call that they are either headline shopping or missing out on other perspectives of current events. This is especially important on the international stage where armed conflicts will naturally produce two opposing accounts (and lots of propaganda).
The second group have a point - MBFC isn’t the end all be all, but it’s certainly better than nothing. Having meaningful bias measurements for each relevant scale would be impressive but way beyond what MBFC aims to do.
So all in all - I see this as a very positive change
While my initial reaction to this was “wholly fuck that’s expensive” I realize that all those modifiers would make it close to a grand at a glasses shop.
Depends on your use case. If you like the content or communities that exist here, then obviously stay.
Lemmy/Kbin/Mbin feel fairly stable about what communities exist and which get actual traffic, so make your decision based on your interests and interactions, as well your beliefs.
I'm on Reddit way more often than I'm on here cause my favorite subreddits don't exist here in any capacity oe have minimal activity
As far as I know, that’s not around here. But the eye exam was only $30, so at least the insurance helped there. It would have only been $10, but they said if I gave them an extra $20, they’d do some imaging thing which meant they didn’t have to dilate my eyes. Totally worth an extra $20.
Q2: It’s possible but doubtful that you’ll get an account unbanned. No idea how they do it (haven’t bothered to look) but bans seem to track across IP and device. Making a new account on the same device after moving across states, my new accounts would still be banned for evasion within a few days. Couple that with the fact that most subs have karma and age minimum requirements and I just gave up after a while
I think the biggest problem for the vast majority is that they can’t afford to buy much of anything. Hard to enjoy spending the day looking at all the ads for all of the products that you can’t afford.
