greyw0lv , to memes in When you write your academic papers in Word

As someone who dislikes M$ word, but begrudgingly uses it for lab reports. Can someone tell me what LaTeX for citations is? I know latex as that math protocol for my personal markdown notes.

Also what other software is useful for writing formatted papers?

Railison OP ,

Go to https://www.overleaf.com and say goodbye to a chunk of your weekend. 😉

WolfLink ,

Math formatting is a very small piece of what LaTeX does.

The common tool for managing citation in a LaTeX document is called BibTeX. You enter details about your sources, and BibTeX will create your bibliography and will also make it easier to cite things in your paper.

humbletightband ,

Also what other software is useful for writing formatted papers?

Nothing is better than LaTeX/XeTeX + BiBTeX to my knowledge.

Also I advocate against using overleaf as someone would suggest. I used texlive before switching to overleaf and we wrote a few papers via overleaf free tier. Sadly enough, now these papers can’t be compiled because there is not enough computational resources on a free tier. Moreover, the documents are neither versioned nor blamed which makes me difficult to go back and reflect on the papers.

I’m back to writing papers now and we’re using GitHub private repository + LaTeX+ BiBTeX which allows us to overcome all possible limitations of overleaf.

The only way for a working class person to have any financial security is to join or build a strong union with other working class people. The rich/powerful/elites will always be able to crush us if we don’t work together

Buy jewelry, gold and silver coins, gemstones, rolls of silk, fine pelts, expensive spices like vanilla beans (avoid saffron though, its perishable), fine porcelains and maybe a rare painting or two. Put it all in a big wooden chest with a big iron padlock on it, and bury it in your backyard. Then draw some sort of cryptic map to it in case you die unexpectedly, or forget where your backyard is or something.

Aceticon ,

Also traps, lots of traps - something fancy like blowpipes shooting darts when an intruder steps on the wrong stone of a floor puzzle, maybe even a large an perfectly spherical stone that rolls towards intruders if the weight of your chest is altered.

There’s a series of documentaries about such things were a professor of Archeology - a Dr. Jones, if I’m not mistaken - illustrates their workings.

Migadu. Yeah*. On the computer, I use mostly aerc (+notmuch), but hop on Thunderbird once in a while; on mobile I use K-9.

  • If you are not looking for totally free options (though their cheapest plan is 20€/y and they give 50% discount to students), and if you don’t care about email encryption (which you shouldn’t). Migadu has a very good Pros/Cons page, I highly recommend you take a look, even if you’re not using or planning to use their service.

I was following various folks on there but never much posted.

Then, a couple weeks ago they implemented some kind of “live” feature that started spamming notifications like crazy. The only way to disable it was to disable user notifications, which means Twitter went totally quiet for me.

I’ve checked in a couple times in the interim, but looks like I’m pretty much done with that app. I guess it was Elon’s next step on the path to destroying Twitter.

Corporations are not people. They do not have a sense of identity. They do not deserve the same rights as humans. They are not capable of being affected by things like gender dysphoria. A corporation does not have feelings and is only a word we use to describe a collective form of actions made by ACTUAL humans.

You literally can not deadname a company. But Elon should understand the hypocrisy none the less.

@beefbaby182@lemmy.world avatar

If I’m following correctly, 11:19AM seems like it’s a long ways off from 5PM when you haven’t even had your lunch break yet. But then 4:00PM rolls around and THE FINAL COUNTDOWN starts where you only have ONE HOUR left in your workday.

I dunno, that’s just my interpretation. Just riffing at this point.
