has anyone tried out apple’s ‘spatial audio’ and how it compares to 5.1?

ayyy , (edited )

It does what it claims to do in that it makes the music sound like it’s coming from a set of speakers a few feet in front of you in a room that has poor sound deadening. I really tried to like it but it just sounds more muddled/is fatiguing for me.

Edit: I haven’t tried it on acid yet tho, maybe that would make it make sense.

Iirc all the recent hate is focused on vegans who think obligate carnivores can be turned vegan.

Don’t abuse your pets or just maybe don’t have pets at all.

Obligate Carnivore is a great band name.

Landsharkgun ,

Everyone who keeps posting this ignores that there has been vegan cat food for years, supplemented with necessary vitamins etc and backed up with scientific research. They didn’t make it up out of thin air as you seem to be implying. Sceptism or disagreement is fine. Painting the other side as lunatics is not.

echolalia , (edited )

Pssh everyone knows the only correct diet for a cat is their natural one: giant ocean predators (salmon and tuna) and corn-fed livestock. All mixed up with preservatives and taurine and ash, just like their mawmaw cats used to make!

  • Landsharkgun ,

    As the other user pointed out: it is equally insane to feed a cat tuna, beef, pork, etc, that has never been a part of their natural diet. Most cat food is equally artificial and ‘lab-produced slop’, unless there’s a cat food out there made from mice and birds. Both kinds will have to do the same amount of research to make sure that it will actually fulfill a cat’s dietary needs. The vegan one just causes less harm.

    Also, reported for being a jackass.

    I’m sure you feed your cat nothing but rodents.

    And yah, turns out if you’re an asshole people don’t want to spend time with you. Big surprise, I’m sure.

    leftytighty ,

    it’s possible we’re facing a future in which meat is not sustainable and we won’t want to spare any for cats, it’s something worth studying

    Floey ,

    What vegan thinks you can turn a cat vegan? That’s like thinking you can turn a cat hegelian or something.

    YeetPics , to nostupidquestions in Why are doctors so hands off and unhelpful in the USA?
    @YeetPics@mander.xyz avatar

    Afaik it has to do with licensing regulations and litigations…

    A doctor is licensed to practice by the state, and must carry insurance on a state-by-state basis to acquire a license to practice.

    The problem is that if you get sued 3 times you get blackballed by the insurance industry in your state and the insurance companies won’t insure you.

    You see a lot of doctors moving states often, its often because they became un-licensable in their former areas.

    I have limited industry experience and have talked to quite a few doctors who were indeed a bit distant and hands-off in their practice for this reason alone.

    I’m a big fan of this game. It’s tactically deep and can be fairly punishing while also being whimsical and silly. And I love the fact that encounters can be resolved with or without violence. The characters are all dripping with personality and it has a fun sort of globetrotting vibe.

    So in regards to specifically VR, I’m just going to make the blind assumption that your headset is a quest 2 or something along those lines. For the time being on campus, you might just want to consider running VR through a physical USB-C link cable rather than jumping through so many hoops on the router setup. A decent cable will run you like $20 US or how ever that translates to local. The quality of the connection is generally about the same as wireless, the main drawback is usually a wired link can’t put through enough energy to recharge you headset on top of the data transfer, so your battery will slowly drain over a few hours. There are also link cables that you can additionally plug your charger into so you don’t slowly run out of battery, but I think the build quality on those is often sketchy. Either way something to consider.

    mat OP ,
    @mat@linux.community avatar

    Yeah, that’s a possibility. I did fly the router all the way here but if I really can’t use it I will go wired. Sadly I couldn’t get WiVRn working on wired, and ALVR had really bad performance.

    OhmsLawn , to nostupidquestions in How do you ask for a haircut?

    You think that’s hard?

    Last year my dentist/denturist asked my what I wanted my teeth to look like!

    It was unreal, trying to develop an aesthetic preference for teeth. It was actually quite eye-opening. I did find that I had a very strong opinion about it. I haven’t quite gotten to the end product, but I now know what I want.

    I recommend photos, but also to be careful in explaining what you like about the photo. It’s easy to latch on to one aspect of a style, not realizing that an attempt to reproduce other aspects might end up completely ignoring what drew you to it in the first place.
