You are correct China have no need to invade Taiwan. They could just not do it but they probably are going to anyway because they are like that they are expansionists, Communists always are.

Taiwan was been a nationalist hold out ruled under a military dictatorship for most of its existence. Their leadership does not represent the will of the Chinese people, they are literally just a US puppet.
They will reintegrate with the mainland peacefully, despite western attempts to stir up a regional war. All the US can offer is blood and subjugation under capital. China offers progress and peace.
I don’t think the vast majority of people pulled in the UK would support China invading Taiwan so it’s weird that they’re framing it like this, as if that’s the only way that anyone would care.

The major reason for this is that inflation is measured based on the growth in prices over the past year, so a large part of the figure is based on what prices were 12 months ago.
In April, the energy price cap – the maximum most households pay for each unit of gas or electricity used – was cut by the regulator Ofgem. In April 2023, the amount people were paying for their energy was at the highest level on record, but the cap fell in July 2023.
So while energy prices deflated dramatically in the 12 months leading up to April to June 2024, dragging the headline inflation figure down, the deflation is less dramatic in July.

Unless there are some factors that I am not aware of affecting the UK, I don’t think that inflation will reach particularly high levels – like, of the COVID-19 sort – in the near future. And inflation normally does bounce around a bit.
I don’t expect to reach retirement age as it will keep increasing. If I do make it that far, I expect having to work so long to get there that I will be pretty much a husk of a human.
That isn’t to say I’m not paying into one, but I probably am in the ‘not adequately saving’ group because I want to enjoy the time I have now as best I can.

A wealth tax doesn’t have much impact on real production. It is money hoarded and not being used for anything. I have doubts on its efficacy since France is in the EU and the capital flows are open, they have no control over the Euro. Which is why they’ll likely need to leave the Eurozone before doing anything ‘radical’.
With the capitalist pulling money out of France and taxes staying uncollected, the only way for them to fund their new welfare plans is with bond issuance (assuming the markets still want French Euro bonds). which EU rules limit to 3%, so not possible at all.
can they really leverage something like Greece on the second economy of the EU? and how well can capital actually avoid tax while staying within the benefits of the EU? if it were elementary to cart off to a more friendly EU country wouldn’t EU firms be swirling between memberstates after like every election?
I’ll take garden variety disagreements about economic policies over power seizure any day of the week. Compromise and not getting all the things you want is a hallmark of a healthy democracy.
This is how low the bar is and I lay 100% blame on authoritarians more interested in grabbing power than compromising themselves.
Democracy is when everything sucks and gets worse every year while centrists keep eyeing Nazis as possible better allies than the left.
